bianfuxia Posted July 2 Posted July 2 (edited) I will have a go at this one. Edited Thursday at 11:12 AM by bianfuxia 14 1
Mjwomack Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I'll be for this. Never built anything by Amodel but plenty in their list interests me 1
Marklo Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Welcome to the GB. Funny never been a Canberra fan but in that scale it looks interesting. 1

bianfuxia Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 Off to a simple start. As I'd figured, the fit is pretty atrocious. Mostly under the wing at the rear where the flaps would be. I guess there's a bit of sanding in my future. I've left the tail off for the moment because I think I need a little more blue tack in the front for weight. The c-o-g test wasn't completely convincing (I taped the tail on to test it) and it has potential to be a tail-sitter. Still, I'm off and running! 9
Mjwomack Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Even on the basis of some sprue fondlling, I'm not convinced that I want any of the Model catalogue that badly- is the fuselage rear a butt joint? Things can only get better (maybe)

I'm probably still inside 25%! 😂 2 hours ago, Mjwomack said: Even on the basis of some sprue fondlling, I'm not convinced that I want any of the Model catalogue that badly- is the fuselage rear a butt joint? Things can only get better (maybe) Yeah it's pretty primitive. The nose section is also a butt join.

JamesP Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I built the T17 release of this kit years ago. I found with these earlier Amodel kits that there was usually a good model in there, you just had to find it. A bit of patience and you should have a fine model. 2 1

bianfuxia Posted July 14 Author Posted July 14 Well, the initial burst of enthusiasm has been maintained despite it being ill-timed and so here we are with this: True to what was said above, there is a good model in here somewhere. But it will be ...some work! And that's before you even see the colossal gaps and step on the wing underside. As 99% of my viewing of completed models happens when they're sitting on the shelf with their underside invisible, I will prioritize what can be seen over what can't. I'm not investing 8 hours of sanding on a ten dollar kit! 10

File a bit, pour CA on top (not a fan but here it helps), file a bit more, 800, 1200 grit sanding and done. Models like that (A&A, MicroMir, Amodel, etc) need a bit of preparation but sometimes manufacturer almost accounts for flash in the assembly. Edited July 15 by Illusive 2
bianfuxia Posted July 15 Author Posted July 15 Yeah I am also not a huge fan of CA. In the end I slathered it with Mr Putty or whatever that Mr product is called. I'll sand that and it'll be good enough for me. 1

bianfuxia Posted July 27 Author Posted July 27 Not a lot to show but I've spent quite some time sanding this thing... It feels a lot smoother to the touch than it looks in these pics. I will give it some paint and see whether I have done enough! 12
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Looks good so far, cant wait to build the one I got recently. 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Nice start, I built one of these many moons ago for a AWM travelling history box (part of a club project for the AWM). Mine was wheels up with custom decals for A84-234. 1
bianfuxia Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 Not great, not terrible. But I did go back and slather some more Mr Putty on: As always things look a lot worse in the unforgiving eye of the camera. Those blemishes on the fuselage just ahead of the wing are harder to see with the naked eye. I may not bother too much more with them, but I'll see how I feel. The gaps on the engine intakes were still pretty epic though. I decided I couldn't live with this: 11 1
Illusive Posted August 12 Posted August 12 Surprising to see Amodel kit in such a shape, anyhow, this is going to look good in the end. 1
