Spottedlaurel Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I've been beavering away on this as my Eighties GB entry and got it finished at the weekend. Compare and contrast it with Spiny's Silvia build he's just put up here, another 1980s pop-up light wonder. WIP thread here: The first kit for a very long time that I've built only with what was in the box, as I couldn't find any alternative wheels of the right size that would have suited it. Painted TS-54 Light Metallic Blue with TS-30 Silver Leaf base coat and lower portion. XF-85 Rubber Black for the trim. Funky decals for the seats, digital dash and unconventional spokes on the steering wheel. Simple underside detailing with metal rod axles, but at least most of the exhaust was separate. Rare, but we did get them in the UK and this is a brochure I have in my collection. Thought it made for an interesting comparison with another recently completed slice of wedgy, pop-up light goodness. Thanks for looking! 25 2
keefr22 Posted June 10 Posted June 10 That'a a lovely build, super paintjob in a perfect colour scheme. and I think the kit wheels really suit it! Nice interior too! Cracking Scooby! Keith 1 2
Davi Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Nice result, good choice of color and really an overall 80s vibe! Unusual model that I can't remember to have seen before, it has something futuristics (from an 80s perspective) with that rear. Cool to see it has been build! 1 3
Spiny Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Really nicely done, it's an unusual car which will definitely stand out on your shelf, particularly with that paint job you have on it. It might be simple, but it's a good end result. ...and it's making me think I need to get mine done at some stage. Although mine is the super-simple motorized kit so it won't take too long to rebuild. 1
Spottedlaurel Posted June 10 Author Posted June 10 Thanks all for the kind words! 14 minutes ago, Spiny said: ...and it's making me think I need to get mine done at some stage. I still have one of those to do, but at some point I appear to have acquired a spare interior tub and parts sprue from the non-motorized version. Just realised the Hartge style wheels from it might be useful for another project I'm pondering at present.....
Anteater Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Lovely. Perhaps not the most complex kit, but you've done a grand job. Must have been a nice airy cabin in these but that steering wheel would do my head in. At least they had full opening front windows unlike the SVX that came afterwards. 1
Neddy Posted June 11 Posted June 11 That's a great model of a rare and quirky 1980s vintage classic. Very nicely finished too! 1
galaxyg Posted June 12 Posted June 12 (edited) I first saw these in a classmates Tamiya catalogue at school back when they were a new car. That was my first introduction to the Skyline too - well before Gran Turismo. I think the 80s Tamiya catalogue may well have ignited my lifelong interest in Japanese cars, and I remember thinking what an unusual car the Alcyone is. I built one myself a few years ago. Great looking build you have there - nice colour choice. 80's styling masterpiece, that steering wheel and a blue interior. Edited June 12 by galaxyg 1
