Michael M Posted June 8 Posted June 8 And now something completely different ;) My first ever venture into sailing vessels: Galway Hooker in 1/72 scale . It's a paper model by WAK with all their add-ons, fully painted. I dipped into my stash of veneer to further enhance the look of untreated wooden parts. I'm a firm believer of the theory that the ships DO get dirty, so my little Hooker looks like it was out and about for a while I hope you'll enjoy it. Cheers Mick. 22 3
Noel Smith Posted June 9 Posted June 9 (edited) Hi Mick A really nice model. Nice to see a model of a historic working boat. In 1/72me scale of looks to be quite a small model, so credit where it is due, the extra detailing you have placed on the model really enhances the model. My wife and I have a close friend who comes from Galway and she has often asked if there is a model of a Galway Hooker. Visited Galway a few years back and saw a couple of restored Hookers out on the bay. Up to now I was unaware that there was a model kit, even in catd. I will have to take a look at the WAK website if there is one. Also Marcle Models here in the UK who are card model specialists. Edited June 9 by Noel Smith
Michael M Posted July 4 Author Posted July 4 Little update to the Hooker. I've added reef lines, crew and some fish Crew is from two separate White Stork's kits. Cheers Mick. 8 2
Ngantek Posted July 4 Posted July 4 Looks fantastic Mick. There are card models and 'there is absolutely no way that can be card' models. This is one of the latter. Really astonishing work. 1 1

I hadn't realized at first that this was a card model, I thought it was wood. It's not what I would call a dynamic scene but is a superb representation of the way of life for thousands over the years. Very well done. Regards, Jeff. 1
Janner-Al Posted July 5 Posted July 5 I never in a million years would have thought this is a paper model and the rigging is fantastic. Alan. 1 1
noelh Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Very nice indeed. The real boats are familiar sight for me whether either out in the bay or floating in the Claddagh Basin near Galway city centre. I didn't realise there was a model available either although I was aware of WAK and their eclectic subjects. 1
rob Lyttle Posted July 7 Posted July 7 This is a wonderful build, can't believe it's card/paper!!😲 The extras, the figures and details, really lift it to another level again. Well done 👏 1
HOUSTON Posted July 7 Posted July 7 OMG ! What an outstanding and very IMPRESSIVE and immaculately done. Your workmanship is TOP NOTCH and one would never have thought that this model was made/constructed in paper. The Wood looks spectacular. Well it , your Galway Hooker , reminds ME of a sea shanti that MY Late Mom loved.. Thank you for a super model and sharing it with us. She's a real beauty. 1
