Hi. Can I join in on the fun with this:

Not completely fitted here.

THis is how far I've got with it. Painting stage and fitting all the delicate parts. However, I have lost the tailwheel. So a search in my undercart spares box for something suitable will need to be carried out.

Welcome @Paul J yes of course you may join the build. Id like to build a couple of these and the Airfix Typhoons but every time I have $ they're sold out. Which unit have you chosen, I think you mentioned in the chat thread but I’ve forgotten ?

Good to see this (these) Tempests on here. By my reckoning only 486 (New Zealand) Sqn. operated Tempests during WW2 however many more ‘Anzac’ pilots served in other regular units of the RAF.

Airfix did quite a good job of this kit. The Engineering is quite clever and it really should pose no issues at all. From your progress shots, looks like you’re well on your way to success.

Cheers and all the best.. Dave

So true Dave,

Fighter Command - Australian and New Zealand Pilots made up a fair share of the "Few" in the Battle of Britain

Bomber Command

Coastal Command

Far East Command/SEAC

Outside the RAF, you also have FAA.

So many topics to choose from :D

Regards

  • Paul J changed the title to AIrfix 1/72 Tempest for 486 Sqdn. RNZAF.

Finished.  I expect there will be others here from the same kit and markings. The more the merrier I suppose. Considering my shakes kicked in at the wrong moments during the build which did not help. Especially trying to paint the canopy and windshield framing!!

OH, I found a sort of suitable tailwheel that fitted the model of the right height but not quite what it should be. But it will have to do. More pics in gallery.
