I have taken an interest in making buildings as backdrops for my dioramas but I have had problems in identifying the heights of some of the structures I've seen, such as this one.

Can anyone recommend a free app that I can load on to my smartphone [xiaomi 11se 5G] in order that I can find the various heights of roofs, windows and arches etc?  I will admit that my knowledge of the workings of a smartphone is very limited, I only use it to take photos, so any advice or assistance would be very much appreciated.

cheers,

Mike

Some apps claim to measure the heights of objects, but their accuracy is a matter of debate. They all seem to rely on basic trigonometry to get an answer,  but as phones don't have laser rangefinders built in, I fail to see how they do this.

You could get a laser measure with a Pythagoras function that works it out, but:

a) Not Free

b) Not a phone.

However, it is nice kit for around the house.
