Cookenbacher Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Looking grand Ced, and that landing gear is a contraption and a half! 1
giemme Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Looking great with all stickers on - and on her legs! As regards weathering, I suggest you do at least a panel line wash - I bet it would complete the look of it Ciao 1
81-er Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I think the finish line is in sight with this one, Ced James 1

They’re really something. 😀 Ill pray to the sticking gods that all is well come the morning. 🙏 Johnny undercarriage. Thanks Johnny. More or less OK with a bit more stick to correct a wonk (technical term) - one of the legs was bending a bit forward. 12 hours ago, Cookenbacher said: Looking grand Ced, and that landing gear is a contraption and a half! It is Cookie, another thing to dislike! 3 hours ago, giemme said: Looking great with all stickers on - and on her legs! I might do that, maybe 2 hours ago, 81-er said: I think the finish line is in sight with this one, Ced James Thankfully James, just a lot of aerials to stick on. What could go wrong!!?? This morning I corrected a wonky leg and painted the bomb: Closest I have to dark bronze green. I gave my Revell to Help the Heroes. Close enough for this. I stuck more little bits on the bottom (titter): Lost another rack clamp. I give up. I then thought about the struts and used my mini dividers to measure the distance: Then I thought about where I could cut and then glue, accurately. Then my mojo crashed so I just stuck 'em on as they were. So there. Look OKish: 22 1
CedB Posted August 21 Author Posted August 21 Thanks Johnny, John, Giorgio, Keith and Adrian Nearly there indeed. Except Giorgio wants a wash (tee hee). Oh, alright then: Gloss coat still didn't help the wash run so lots of wiping (and cursing) but done. Glued another clamp back on, again. Exhausts glued on and finally the matt coat: Drying nicely. Soon, the end, soon… 17 1
CedB Posted August 21 Author Posted August 21 Masking off! Clearfix for the little windows. Aquagloss on the canopies. Dulcote on the shiny stencils. Prop glued on. Just the aerials and sticky up things left. Can't bear the fiddling at the moment. Later. 17 1
Chuck1945 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Almost there! From these current pictures it would be hard to imagine the struggle you’ve had with this kit. 1 1
81-er Posted August 21 Posted August 21 She's looking great, Ced, well worth the pain to get here James 1
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted August 21 Posted August 21 For such a beast Ced you've thoroughly whooped its backside. 1
CedB Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Chuck, Bill, James, Dennis thanks to you all - very kind. It's been 'a challenge' but we're nearly there. Just the, gulp, aerials to fit. Don't panic… 'Easy' one first, the radio aerial post. No locating pin. Round post on an angled canopy. Oh good grief. So, sand an angle on the bottom of the post, press it on with TET quick and then fill the gap with canopy glue: Looks a mess but, of course, I tidied it up. Now the challenges. I have a collection of the thin wire from wine bottles: Stored in an old cigar tin. Bit of an admission of my lifestyle (No cigars now, I'm vaping. Judge if you must, but not here!) Drill, glue, cut: The tooth pick is to clean excess CA before it sets. How the heck do I hold these? Surprisingly I don't have any clamping tweezers (yet) so careful holding: Position the part on the wing to locate the hole: … and in they go: Finally, the pitot: I'll leave those until tomorrow before touching up and rigging. Close to the end. 21 1
CedB Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Thanks Simon Look what I found: My tool kit is fine. My memory not so good 1 14
Chuck1945 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Been there, experienced that. Most recently during the Mosquito STGP, I wanted to reread Mosquito Thunder but couldn’t find my copy of it even after going through the book boxes still in storage so I bought another second hand, still in excellent condition. About three weeks later I was moving some magazines and found my original copy. 3
hendie Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Oooh, this is a real cliffhanger. Will he make it to the end? Is the next post the grand finale? Will he find more tweezers? I can hardly wait... 5

Shake Posted August 23 Posted August 23 Can't wait to see it finished, you did a splendid job on a reluctant kit with matching instructions. Sjaak 1
giemme Posted August 23 Posted August 23 It's already been said, but looking the present state of the model, it's hard to believe it put up such a hard fight. KUDOS! Ciao 1 1

CedB Posted August 23 Author Posted August 23 Bit of touching up this morning (snurf): I'm calling this done. I was planning to rig the aerials but then decided it would get knocked off in the cabinet so I'm not going to bother. Or bother to do an RFI - I dislike this kit that much. So, some final shots just for you. Do excuse these pics - I can't set up the light box properly. 18 3
