Hi Ced, despite the airbrush struggle your sky coating looks good!

@Grey Beema Good find, it shows clearly how the Youngman Flaps work. Every day is a learning day, thanks for posting.

This one's still proving to be a bit of a rollercoaster, but you're getting there, Ced. The Sky undersides look good, as does that airbrush. A variant of the H&S Infinity?

Hopefully you're going to treat yourself to a nice Tamiya kit after this one!

James

Thanks James. A nice Tamiya it will be!

Looking forward to how the liquid mask works for you, Ced :fingerscrossed:

Neat job with the primer! :clap:The flap thing is annoying, but better not prying if TeT didn't work.

Ciao

Thanks Giorgio. I shall not pry further!

This kit is fighting you every step of the way, but I am sure you will come out on top. Was hoping to add an innuendo, but full of homemade beef stroganoff, apple cake and wine. My enthusiasm for building this kit as a possible GB entry for next year is waning rapidly, which is a shame as I have always fancied building one.

Thanks Mr T.

Innuendo? Mojo low at the moment otherwise I'd give you one :)

Was this a total blockage or just a case of dry tip @CedB?  (Oooh errr Mrs!)

Its a shame about the flaps, but who knew about this fandangled design.... apart from Mr. Youngman of course and those inexplicable instructions?

Anyway, looking positively resplendent in sky ...  nice work and my prediction of paint comes true!

This will be a build you'll be proud of and want to forget all on one go!

Keith ☺️

Thanks Keith.

It was a block, possibly caused by the wrong thinner or just lack of use.

Proud of it? We shall see!

Your perseverance is very admirable on this one Ced, and is it should be mentioned that this is turning out to be quite the looker - very menacing looking aircraft!

Definitely bonus points for perseverance!

I built the original MPM version of the kit when it was relatively new and I got this boxing when it was released but I’m nowthinking it will just stay in the box and I can relive the hazy and much less troublesome memories of the earlier project 😎

Thanks Chuck. I would like to say that this build might allow you to avoid the issues but I'm not sure I can. :(

You’re definitely winning, apart from the airbrush mishap.
I looked at my 1/48 version the other day and I don’t think it will be any easier than yours. I remember thinking when I bought it that I might fold one of the wings ( stupid boy! ) but now think that perhaps displacing the elevators would be enough of a challenge.

John. 🇺🇦

Thanks John. The Baron folded a wing as you probably know. 50 page build. Enough said?

That's better! Everything looks wonderful with a decent coat of sky underneath.

I get that. A very appropriate gift from our American friends.

As for the next kit, I can think of one that is very unlikely to give you any assembly problems at all, Ced. It may be a long build though. Clues ........... 1/32 ........... big ......... beautiful .......... one previous careful owner. Just saying 😉

T.

Thanks Terry. 1/32? Not my scale and I can't think what you might be 'hinting at'. Ahem :D

Looking good! Some more masking, a coat of EDSG and you are almost there. And maybe a bit ungrateful to the sponsor of the Frog Barracuda, but its propeller would be a very good replacement for the SH prop. The SH propeller is much too small.

I have to agree with @perdu Ced, it does look a little pale for EDSG, perhaps it’s just the lighting in your booth.

PS: we’re looking forward to(?) a week of temperatures in the mid 30s with overnight temperatures of around 20c. I’m going to hide in the house with the shutters closed whenever possible.

Dark Slate Grey it is.

We're in for another 'heat wave' here so progress may slow down, just like me :(

Before the heat struck:

Measure the wingspan, import a scanned scheme to Silhouette Studio, resize and trace. Didn't work. Smooth Freehand tool to the rescue:

The masking is peeling off already.

Thanks Keith. I did think it was cooler today so got some things done :)

Oramask applied:

54716348379_c306ffbc04_z.jpg

Can't scan the fuselage masks so on with the black ooze Panzer Putty:

54716486660_120b9153ec_z.jpg

I did remember the tips with this stuff; keep it thin, yank to snap and don't leave it to ooze over the model.

EDSG on:

54715337802_906c6bd1bf_z.jpg

Got it right this time.

As I finished the spray clean up the first bead of perspiration ran down my face:

… but couldn't leave without the best bit:

54716191316_578c5930bf_z.jpg

Quick check looks good.

I can't wait to finish this and treat myself to this:
