Aidan.H Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Hi Guys, I’m looking for a razor saw something like the below, does anyone have any recommendations or links to any at a reasonable price? thanks
Mark Harmsworth Posted May 13 Posted May 13 There are plenty around - a razor saw is a fairly standard bit of kit. Where you may get unstuck is what you mean by 'reasonable price'. For example: https://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?keyword_search=saw&setPerPage=25&product_type_id=all_modelling_tools&search_direction=asc&pageID=1 I have a tamiya saw and also their p.e set of fine saws (page 2 of that list) both of which I am very happy with although that might not be modest enough. A rummage around with one of those searching engines found that Revell have a modestly priced set (looks like you get three blades) which may be a decent starting point: Revell modelling saw Good luck Mark

Its the blades with the handle, and for £12 thats what I call reasonable I already have two similar to the Revell set but I find they're no good for scribing. Thanks Aidan Edited May 13 by Aidan.H
Giorgio N Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I have one of the CMK saws that you can see in the Hannant's list, and it works very well. Mine is the "ultra smooth and extra smooth" type, with 42 teeth on one side and 70 on the other. Personally I use the 70 teets side much more often than the other, The saw cuts very well and I've also used the 70 teeth side to rescribe panel lines on curved surfaces with success, so much that today I often prefer to use this rather than a scriber. 1

Ive bought it specifically for scribing so it's good to know it works well. I have the Tamiya scribing tool, whenever I use it I cause myself an issue. I don't know if there is a knack to it but I'm constantly going out of the line and getting tram lines. I’ve tried insulation tape and dymo tape but neither made much difference. I imagine the dymo tape is ok on a flat surface but not so good on top of a curved aircraft fuselage 😀 Edited May 15 by Aidan.H
