gwyndaffandy Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Having almost cleared one model of the bench it is time for the next to take its place. I have selected the Lancia 037 with 7up decals because I like the ugliness of the Lancia and the 7up decals are a bit different to the classic Martini scheme. I used Rejimodel decals on my last build and found them a dream to use but looking at these for the first time I am not sure they will work as well, the black looks a bit clumsy, like they are out of register a bit. It is really noticeable on the Michelin decals. Hopefully they will go on ok, if not I will be changing scheme…. i am also going to use a photoetch set which is also from Rejimodel. I will definitely use it for the grills but might leave some bits off if I don’t think they improve things much. The kit I am using is the Hasegawa Chardonnet offering (number 20264) 12
modelling minion Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Welcome to the GB and with a great choice of subject and certainly an eye catching scheme for it, I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Thank you. I will be starting with the bodywork and if that comes out ok then we should be good
81-er Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Welcome to the GB I love the brutal looks of the 037 and the 7-up decals make for a nice change too James 1 1
Redstaff Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Good to see another rally car in the GB, looking forward to progress I like the look of the scheme, but IMHO the only scheme an 037 looks good in is the Martini one But that's just my opinion I'm currently building a Metro 6R4 for the GB, Ian 1

I love it. I have one that got as far as the decals (Golden Wonder) back in Jan 23. I liked the body but was a bit daunted by the rest of it. Seeing yours early this week made me think about restarting it soon. I do understand about the Martini scheme. I agree that it does suit the 037 well, but the 7up is almost the same, just different colours 😀 who knows? If the decals don’t play nicely it could be the Martini stripes it ends up wearing. 2
gwyndaffandy Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 A small bit of progress for today. I started by preparing the body. It comes with a separate front section whilst the engine cover at the rear is moulded as part of the cabin. You could cut the boot off if you wanted. The pe set for the 037 includes hinges which could be made to work I guess. one thing I liked was the grill for the roof airvent. I had to add some filler on the rear spoiler insert at the back and a couple of sink marks in the corners at the front. 9
modelling minion Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Thats looking very good, nice job with the PE as it can be very fiddly at times.

Thanks, I probably won’t use all the pe parts but as ll pictures I have seen of the 7up 037 have the roof vent open I thought I would use this one 9 hours ago, Rob Sutto said: Excellent, you chose the Lancia like I told you voted for Never let it be said that I am swayed by public opinion. It was quite a close decision between the 037 and the 911 but with a few 037s to build I thought now made sense to try one. On my model wish list for the year is to build a rally car dio, I wonder if the 037 will be the one….. 3
gwyndaffandy Posted May 7 Author Posted May 7 I have started the decals by adding the green stripes. They are not perfect in places but it is enough for me to continue with the build and this scheme. 12
modelling minion Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Those green stripes really add a splash of colour don't they. 1
81-er Posted May 8 Posted May 8 It looks good to me. Race cars are also usually dog rough up close, so if things are a little off then it just adds to the realism James 1
gwyndaffandy Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 I just couldn’t stop myself with this one and have got all the sponsorship decals down in a day, although I will be pausing for a bit now whilst the decals settle down. I have other things to keep me occupied. the decals represent the mount of Salvador Servia from the 1986 Catalunya Rally. They are from Rejimodel and I have mixed feelings about them. They are nice to use and take a fair bit of handling well but the black words seem a bit blurry to me, especially the Michelin and the Bendix logos. If I were to build another one I would go for the Hasegawa kit that has these decals included and has a black Michelin for the rear spoiler whereas the Reji set has a white Michelin to go on the rear grill. But I had got the decals ages ago to go with an 037 I had in the stash. there have been a lot of sponsors decals to add and I think the busy, cluttered look has made the green stripes somehow suit the car a bit more where they were very stark just white and stripes. Anyway, ramble over, here are some pictures of my progress so far 14
Redstaff Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Looking good Although you think that the stripes are not perfect, you'll be amazed how much better they will look once you've put a clearcoat on top of them and the shine and reflections are uniform Ian 1 1
modelling minion Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Great job on the rest of the decals, they really do bring the body to life. A good idea to leave it alone for a while to give the decals a chance to set properly. 1
81-er Posted May 9 Posted May 9 It really looks the part now, even if it is just a shell still James 1

If I am not happy with the exterior I may not get to the interior for a while. As I suffer from shiny new thingy syndrome they can lay undiscovered for a long time…. 3
gwyndaffandy Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 It has been a couple of weeks since I did anything on the 037. I have been wanting to do a rally car diorama for a while, in fact it made it onto my modelling list for this year. This one seemed like a good option to try it and some test fittings showed there should be enough room. The figures come from a Tamiya Subaru Impreza kit. I modified one of the helmets to fit the few pictures I could find of the 7up versions. I started by adding the co-driver, his seat position was dictated by having his feet on the foot rest. The seatbelts are a combination of the kit moulding and some electrical tape. The shoulder straps were added when the seat was fixed and the sabelt stickers came from a seatbelt set. Next up was the right side rolecage and door card. I glued these in and then placed the left ones to get the dashboard glued in. When set, the left door card was removed for access. The driver was added with his arms being positioned on the steering wheel. This gave the seat position which is further forward than the co-driver. The rollcage and door card were glued in now and the shoulder straps were stuck in place. I then added the interior into the body to see if everything fitted. The more observant will note the driver is missing his head, he is turning the steering wheel to the left but I am not sure if this will be to turn left or getting squirrelly round a hairpin 12
modelling minion Posted May 23 Posted May 23 That really is excellent work. The figures are superb and they certainly bring the model to life, you can imagine it tearing around a forest track at ridiculous speeds. 1 1

81-er Posted May 25 Posted May 25 The figures are really adding an extra dimension to this one. I reckon getting out of shape around a hairpin would be the best setting James 1

Thanks @modelling minion, no forest track for this one as the Catalunya rally was run on tarmac. On 24/05/2025 at 01:14, Andwil said: It would have to be this! AW @Andwil I agree, I think I need to figure out how to show that in a small setting 8 hours ago, Windy37 said: It's always good to see a familiar car in unfamiliar colours. Not sure I will add drivers to those though 4 hours ago, 81-er said: The figures are really adding an extra dimension to this one. gwyndaffandy Posted May 28 Author Posted May 28 On with the build, the engine is up next and it is a very visible thing underneath the rear glass cover. I do find it a bit odd that the front of the 037 is a separate part but there is little detail there but the rear isn’t and the engine is there. I added some spark plugs/wires as they are obviously not there but left it at that. I suspect that there could be lots of plumbing and electricals added but I was ok with my little improvement the rest of the build was also straight forward. I do think that the PE sets enhance the grills a lot. Although not too clear in these shots, you can see the exhaust system at the rear and the fan in the radiator at the front. I am pleased with how the wheels and tyres fit. I need to add some Michelin logos which are not included in the decal set. All the other versions of the 037 I have are on Pirellis so a rummage round the spares box is needed. still to add are the lights, mirrors and a few other smaller bits and then on with the weathering 12
