wimbledon99 Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Hi All, This will be my contribution. Planning OOB with the exception of extra decals. I don't understand why kit manufacturers don't provide representative decals with kits. OK, don't put them on the box art, but put them in the box!! Cheers Nigel 8
wimbledon99 Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 Time to kick this one off. Totally unplanned but quite poignant given it's Imola this weekend!! Some of the first parts cleaned, joined and primered. Upon opening the bags, it looks a lovely kit. It's surprisingly much smaller than the Tamiya 1:20 kits. I had no idea that the '04' would make such a difference!! 7
wimbledon99 Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 I attended the Monaco GP in 2013; the final year of the 2.4-litre V8 'loud' era. My boss lives out there and flew a number of us out for a 7 star, 5 day, weekend. I can still picture the whole trip Anyhow, ahead of the race weekend, I thought I'd post a quick update of where I'm at. The parts are dry fitted and just seem to click together; the fit is sublime. This small section gave me my first use of Zero Paints, and a chance to see how the decals went down. 10
CliffB Posted May 31 Posted May 31 That's looking good and I'm feeling inspired to break out my 1/43 Heller MP4/3! It's a very different kit to yours, but has the same decal limitations - perfectly OK for some circuits (I believe), but not for others Cheers 1
wimbledon99 Posted June 2 Author Posted June 2 Thank Cliff It would be great to see your MP4/3 build here!! The decals have proven to be a tad tricky. They are very thick and are more like stickers! They went on OK, though don't like sliding too much. I covered them as usual with Sol, and that's when they became a challenge; they decided to bubble up and have not tightened back so well. The edges of the decals also haven't softened and will need a small, sharp blade to finish. I'm now not using the Sol and I think it's the way forward with these. Anyhow, here how it looks at present: 9
wimbledon99 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Slow moving, but I've started to put these bits together (note to self to remove finger prints). I'm heading away for a couple of weeks so it will remain slow for a while! 9
wimbledon99 Posted July 5 Author Posted July 5 Hi All, Back from holiday and as the weather is a tad grey, I thought I'd better put some bench time in. Here's where I'm at: There are so many things I'd do differently if I built another one of these, but I'll just need to crack on and see how she comes out! Cheers 8
szeregowy Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Looks really good. Silly question incoming... what's the connection with Australia or New Zealand? 1 1

wimbledon99 Posted July 10 Author Posted July 10 Made some more progress this week with the lower half 99% complete. I also bit the bullet and decided to crack on with main paint job. I plan to leave it for a few days now to fully dry before I try to rub down the lines. Once done, she'll be ready for decals and gloss coat 6 1
wimbledon99 Posted July 14 Author Posted July 14 Decals - Done Shouldn't be too far off the gallery once the gloss is applied 9 2
ToE1984 Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Looking really good. Very nice clean work on the paintjob and the decals! Also, great to see something non-military in this GB! Cheers Thomas

wimbledon99 Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 I'm calling this one done. Thanks to Dennis & Pat ( @Corsairfoxfouruncle & @JOCKNEY ) for the chance to build this, and thanks to those who followed long Hope you like her. I hear Revell are looking at 2020s McLaren for release next year. Thinking it would be the ideal partner for this MP4/4, and a perfect entrant for ANZAC part 3! Cheers Nigel 7 3
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted July 17 Posted July 17 That's looking great, I can remember seeing this car on the track in that scheme. 1
hakkikt Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Subject-wise totally not my cup of tea in modeling, but I cannot but admire your build - straight and clean and convincing! Congratulations! (...and I can hear the cars howling by in my mind, we used to watch a lot when Niki Lauda was still active.😊) 1
szeregowy Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Excellent result @wimbledon99. I've never done F1 car which looks like a completely different kettle of fish to what I'm used to, but following your build I am quite tempted to give it a try. 1
