Sticking with my original plan, I'll be building the lovely expert boxing of the Arma 1/72 Hurricane Mk.I as the sole Hurricane in the land down under, V-7476. I'll likely build a RNZAF partner from 486 Sqn alongside, but currently undecided as to whether that will be a Hurricane Mk.II night fighter, a Typhoon or a Tempest (or perhaps all 3!)

Anyway - I must get some of my 402 Sqn Hurricanes or my Turbo Otter off the workbench to have room to get started on this one. Back to it...

Welcome to the build sir. Being the sole Hurricane in Australia, its a great choice with the three schemes to choose from. Looks like you're going with the intermediate scheme of Foliage Grn./Earth over sky. I’m still stuck on my choice, I like this and the Aluminum scheme about the same. So for now will follow along with your build and hope to make a decision for my future build.

Always good to see a Hurricane and your choice is quite appealing. Mind you, I do like all you're other options as well so it will be nice to see what else comes from that.

Cheers and enjoy the GB.. Dave

Thanks chaps! Dennis, I must admit the bare metal/aluminium scheme is quite appealing - I've never tried finishing a model in bare metal before so I may give that a shot at some point.

Love it. I built the RAAF Hurricane with the Arma kit a few years ago and loved it. I built an 1/144 version of the same plane I loved it so much! I went with the bare metal, but the camo version is great too.

There’s plenty of good ‘easy to use’ paints to simulate NMF these days so ask away, we’ve all tried a few. Just remember that the Hurricane has a large proportion of fabric over the airframe so that area would have been painted rather than stripped back to bare metal. I reckon this Hurricane would have been painted anyway, so one nice solid finish should do the job nicely. Happy for others to comment as I’m just providing an educated guess.

I'd disagree with the idea of being painted in aluminium overall

Have to agree with you now after looking at those photos. I’ve never seen these before, so thanks for the link. What great photos.

The other option could be to use a rattle can of some type. That may give you a smoother finish than with a brush, although I’ve seen some top hairy stick examples so it’s all up to skill and technique I suppose.

Here's the kit in question (as you can see I'd initially planned to model another, albeit close-in-serial, aircraft before this GB sucked me in :) )

This is what you get for your dollarbucks. I've built this kit once before and it goes together very nicely - the plastic I find particularly pleasant to work with. The etched components are also a nice touch. The DK Decals sheet has markings for V-7476 so we'll see how they work out, this will be my first time using that particular brand.

Very nice choice of scheme and decals. I've used DK's stuff a few times and found they work best in warm water and don't really like to be moved about once placed on the model's surface. Perhaps use one of the 'unwanted' decals from the sheet and test them out beforehand. They take well to decal solutions too.

Cheers.. Dave.
