PlaStix Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Hi all. Way, way back in 2014 I took part in my first Group Build on Britmodeller and, even now, I still remember what a fun and supportive experience it was. It was, as you've probably guessed from the title above, the 'Less Than A Tenner' GB. The original GB can be found HERE. Then, in 2020, I suggested Less Than A Tenner Part Two. It ran in 2021 and can be found HERE. I hadn't realised, until @Marklo kindly got in touch yesterday, that it will be 5 years since LTAT II took place in 2021. Wow! How time flies!! So, how about a Less Than A Tenner GB III next year? The basic idea is that any kit can be built in the GB as long as it cost you less than £10.00 - or the equivalent thereof, in the currency of the country you live or lived in - to purchase. This will hopefully mean we get a wide variety of Out Of Box (OOB) builds, made without the need to use any aftermarket items. The kits built can, currently, cost less than £10 (or equivalent) to buy or you can build something that cost you less than £10 back in, say, 1970. If you have the receipt still, or the price sticker is still on the box, then that is even better, but not a necessity for taking part. However, it would be useful if you purchased the item in a sale, at a real knock down price, if you did have the receipt or the sale/reduced sticker is still in place. In the spirit of the previous GBs, it will be expected that people are honest about how much they paid for the kit. Someone suggesting a 1/32nd Tamiya Spitfire cost them £4.50 back in 2008 will be looked upon as going against the spirit of the idea of this GB. This type of GB probably won't appeal to everyone, but should give most of us a chance to hunt through to the back of the stash to find something we thought we wouldn't make for a while, if at all. We'll need 30 people signed up before the bunfight at the end of the year. If I remember correctly (and @Enzo the Magnificent may be able to confirm it) I think the first Less Than A Tenner GB, in 2014, was one of the first GBs to break the 100 mark for completed builds! We had 85 completed builds in 2021. Kind regards, Stix PS - A few modelers have asked if postage is included with the tenner..... No. It's only the cost of the kit itself. PS2 - with regards exchange rates - I think a sensible approach to current and former exchange rates is acceptable. If you purchase a kit now, the current exchange rate should be used for your country. If you bought a kit a while back, then the rough exchange rate at the time should be used, if you have an idea of what it was(ish). A bit of leeway is acceptable, again, as long as you feel it's within the spirit of the GB which is to build something cheap! The list: 1. PlaStix (Host) 2. Marklo 3. That is definitely the case. There were 108 completed builds which meant that there had to be two galleries. 4

JOCKNEY Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I'm definitely up for this one. I'll have to look at what I built last time, but as my stash is ancient there are lots of options under £10 Cheers Pat 1
PlaStix Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Hi @Marklo, @ColonelKrypton, @theplasticsurgeon and @JOCKNEY. Thank you for signing up so quickly! I have added you all to the list. Must admit, I'll have to check through the stash to see what I've got that's suitable! Otherwise I might have to do some shopping! Kind regards, Stix
TimJ Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I took part in the last one but didn't finish so I'll try and do better next time. I've got plenty of options so you can count me in. 1
Marklo Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Afair this was one of my builds from the last time. I definitely have another of these and a boxless DV in the stash, so might be an excuse for some Albatri action. 1
PlaStix Posted April 17 Author Posted April 17 Hi @vppelt68 and @TimJ. Great to see you here! Thank you for signing up! I have added you both to the list. Kind regards, Stix 1
wimbledon99 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Hi Stix, Hope you’re good fella! Yep, absolutely. Sign me up 😀 Cheers Nigel 1
Jb65rams Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Sign me up. Took part in the previous two GBs. Not a lot in the stash beyond your basic 1/72 Airfix Spitfire, Hurricane or Bf109 but have time to do some shopping around. 1
AdrianMF Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I built four kits in the last one and still had change from a single tenner! I have no-o-o-oo shortage of candidates for this one either. Sign me up!!! (please) Regards, Adrian 1
825 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I’ll need to dig deep into the stash but I’m sure there’s a few second hand kits buried down deep as well as a charity shop Airfix Avro 504 somewhere. 1
Robert Stuart Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Going to have to think sideways to find something under a tenner, but OK. Off topic, I wondered how inflation has affected that 10 quid over the years? Think the Bank of England might know? https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculator It seems that £10 back in 2014 is worth £13.61 today. 1
Mjwomack Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Last time out, I went big and blew £9.99 on a Canberra, except it was a very tired Novo repop- mistakes were made, lessons were ignored learnt, definitely learnt. This time I'll be going for something newer, smaller and better quality. At least I've built and English Electric Canberra and the EE bit is the bit that matters! ie sign me up 1
HoolioPaulio Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Count me in again. I have 2 aircraft and at least 2 small resin figures sat in my stash that were all under a tenner. 1
Ned Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I'm in! Of course, I don't have anything suitable so would have to buy something... 1
