I think so, no windows decals for the windscreen so I will have to mask and paint it. Many years ago I paint the windscreen panels on a scratch built Falcon 900 5
TheyJammedKenny! Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Yes, I remember that Falcon 900, and it's a real looker. You did a splendid job. Hopefully A-Model can grace us with one before long. 1
Bluewillow Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Fabulous, I remember seeing the Falcon in the eighties at RAAF Richmond cheers matt 1
bianfuxia Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Nice progress mate. These Mach 2 kits certainly seem to live up to their reputation for being hard work! 1 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted June 25 Author Posted June 25 Thank gents, Time for an update, the landing gear is average and have done my best to tidy it up, this is an in progress shot It was installed and I managed to damage it so some reinforcing was subsequently required. I also primed the model and engines and am working through some seam issues. 15
Robin-42 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Comparing to photos the wing fences look a little oversized, sticking out a little too much at the front. 1
TheyJammedKenny! Posted June 25 Posted June 25 That's talent, sir! The gear actually doesn't look bad, and believe me, we've both seen worse, much worse. As for overall shape, I'd say it's pretty authentic. You've done hard work to get it to this point. I like the C-17 lurking in the background, too. It must weigh a ton! 1

Yep, most likely. I still need to tidy them up including some reshaping and thinning. 6 hours ago, TheyJammedKenny! said: That's talent, sir! The C-17 is a putty monster and I had to add about 300gs of lead under the forward floor to prevent tail sitting. The weight of the model without engines at that stage was 1.7kgs. 1
Rabbit Leader Posted June 28 Posted June 28 This is looking really good Ray, such a lovely shape and all your hard work will certainly pay off once completed. Cheers.. Dave 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted July 6 Author Posted July 6 After adding some antennas and anticol beacons it was time for some paint. I primed it in the lower grey colour and began masking When the masking came off I noticed the grey/white demarcation was higher on one side than the other, I had line them up on the engine slots. Guess what they are not level 😲 So I had the drop the right side slot by about a mm which meant a repaint! After sanding some of the paint back and fixing a couple of other issues, round 2 of masking and painting was completed with engines and demarcation pretty level Some more masking and painting to come for the forward fuselage and engines 14
TheyJammedKenny! Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Wow, that looks great! Excellent way to overcome the hurdle of asymmetry. You've shown a steely determination on this one, and the results are truly....delicious. What a beautiful subject to model in 1/72. 1
Robin-42 Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Nice work! I was hoping to try to catch up with your build with my effort but work inconveniently sent me away for three days! 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 I started to try and match the blue of the decal with he paint on top of the engines. The colour call out is a bit ambiguous, BSC381c-105 Azure Blue, well -105 is Oxford Blue which is too dark. I had a damaged decal sheet so I could compare the colours up close. Pete at Hawkeye recommended Humbrol 15 - Midnight Blue of which I did not have any and neither did the LHS I dove into the paint supplies and found a lighter Testors shade which looks a tad closer I tried a few other blues on a piece of scrap plastic As I decide on which to use I began cleaning up the gear parts ready for the final push to finish this one off. 9
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 Thanks gents, some more paint and markings The engines are being repainted for the third and hopefully final time with Tamiya Royal Blue. 12
TheyJammedKenny! Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Oooh, that's really nice! I want one too, and those wheels don't look too bad to me for a Mach 2 kit. Usually they're really awkward looking, especially in the hubs. Say, is that a MiniCoin / MiniCon I see in the first photo? Are you doing a Biafra War scenario?

Thanks Mate, I was surprised the wheels cleaned as well as they did. The bug smasher in the background is a NZ Aerospace CT-4A, it was the RAAF basic trainer from 1975 to 1992. I started it for the Trainers GB back in 2019 and it languished due to self induced stuff ups. I am thinking of starting a thread for it here even though Julien is building a 3D printed version. Mine will be in a later orange/white scheme and one of the aircraft I flew a couple of Navigation sorties in. It is still in a bit of a mess at the moment 6
AaCee26 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I had had this kit since early 90's and never seriously planning to built it. I know there are issues but what they were wad unclear to me. Now it looks much more buildable as the weak points and how to tackle them! Cheers, AaCee 1
