It's contagious! And this project will probably see another two Wessex getting built in 1/48 scale, let alone a couple of Matchbox Wessex built as well. Is there a vet in the house?

Oooh don't Bill, among other plastic niceties Martian was good enough to donate to the Georgina Melchett senile/senior Truss Fund last week, was an Airfix 1/48th Cranberry B2....so, of course the inevitable quest for aftermarket/correction parts has begun...a spiral into madness and possible bankruptcy beckons as so much is needed, made all the worse by John (Canberra Kid's) encyclopedic knowledge of the type (and kit). The Memsahib's Green Shield Stamp collection will take quite hit again...

Looks like a contagious Canberra epidemic has spawned from this innocent chopper thread Martian. Fortunately, I have no Canberra's in the stash, unloaded the last example to a certain @perdu (a member of our Streetly parish), but I do have a number of these Wessex thingies. Too many other projects right now, but I can see me going for the choppers in the not too distant future.

Might have been. I am hoping to build HMS Bulwark's (R08) last air group, a Sea King HAS 2, a Sea King HC.4 and a ship's flight Wessex HU.5, as a sort of mini display. I have, however, had to promise Lady Martian that I will not try and collect half of the ship to accompany it!

The past couple of days have seen a bit of a corner turned, especially with the Wessex HAS.3. Why? Well having previously been unaware of the existence of instructions of for Hendie's HAS.3 parts, I had glued the cabin parts together, making it much harder to drill the necessary locating holes. I have been worrying about how I was going to get round this problem since I recieved the parts. However, on Friday, I bit the bullet and got measuring and drilling and much to my delight and surprise, I got everything to fit first time. I then fashioned some runners for the cabin seats and tacked them into place. I am showing pictures with the fuselage on this and the HAS.1 and HU.5 with the fuselages temporarily closed up in order to show how much will be able to be seen on the completed models. A full set of pictures with the fuselages opened up, both before and after painting will be posted in due course. I was further surprised when more could be seen than I had expected:

 

 

 

 

Flushed with success, I made some runners for the HAS.1 cabin seats and tacked those into place:

 

 

Next up, a flurry of tentacles saw the cabin structure for the HU.5 build constructed and a start made on the cabin seating. Incidentally, can anyone tell me what the boxlike structure on the forward, port side of the HU.5 cabin is for? The part of the servicing manual that I have just says that it is a two man seat but if that is all it is, then why not just continue the run of seats along the cabin wall?

 

 

 

That concludes the sensible part of this post and I shall now return to trying to learn Gobbledebloop in an effort to further improve communications with the Belgian part of the Naughty Corner as advised by the boffins at Bletchley Park.

Urrah! Splendid! Some modelling again! It looks like the inside of your Wessie is better furnished than my flat, Mr. Martian sir. I'm sad to say I'm also feeling the compulsion to do something about the complete absence of Canberras, at the moment, from my stash. If nothing else, I need one (or two, or three) for my collection of unbuilt Suez Crisis kits (no they're not kits of the crisis itself, with tiny representations of Port Said and the canal).

Ah, Canberras, I have a couple of half finished ones awaiting further ministrations from my tentacles. I put so much scratch building into my T4, that, that one at least stands a fair chance of getting finished.

Consider me another hopeful that you find said sub-assemblies, and perhaps resume a (some?) Canberra builds.

Are they in that box in the HU5? Would sub assemblies be under water? Is that box for bungs and blanks?

There is reason to be hopeful that the said sub-assemblies will be found as Lady Martian, tired of struggling with my "filing system", recently reorganised the main stash in the loft. Failing that, we will get you over to help look for it.
