Hi all,

I’ve never had this before and wonder if anyone else has experienced this.

I unfortunately had to start spraying from a new bottle whilst on my current project.

Normally I have never had any issues with MRP as the paint is spot on.

But my new bottle looks like it has too much blue in it.

The air brake is freshly painted.

The Bucaneer which was from the old bottle has had a wash and a semi matt clear varnish applied.

The radome/nose assembly was also from the new bottle, and has had wash and varnish applied, but you can still see a big variation.

I am not looking forward to continuing because the outer wings need spraying, its going to look like a sore thumb if I continue without doing anything.

I will need to try to blend/match the colour better to what has been applied.

Mildly annoying to say the least!!

Look forward to any thoughts anyone may have.

Cheers

Peter

I ran into it once with a bottle of FS36375 that was too dark from one of the earliest batches I ever bought when they were still in glass bottles. I used it on an F-15 and couldn't really see much difference between light and dark greys. A second later bottle looked right.

Your old bottle looks more like FS36118 I'd go through any other dark greys you have and see if you can find a closer match. I buy MRP because I hate mixing paint. I'm assuming the bottle was thoroughly mixed, no chance you left pigment at the bottom of the bottle?

Couple of reasons come to mind:

  • Batch effect. A bit strong if you ask me, the paint should not appear magically blue.
  • They changed the formula
  • They do not keep the paint stirred while dispensing it to the individual bottles and you got the wrong side of the batch...

Thanks for the replies, yes all well mixed before going in the airbrush. I will practice on some test pieces to try to blend something similar.

I think there must be at least 2 or even 3 years between the bottles.

It’s a shame I don't have another bottle to confirm which one is more correct. I did reach out to MRP. Let’s see if they come back.

Just to finish up if anyone else is reading this or interested.

MRP apparently changed their formula around 2020. They say the new one is correct!

Great, I managed to blend the colours with a flash coat of Basalt grey in the end.
