Pete_W Posted March 25 Posted March 25 .... and she is finished. HMS Jonquil shortly after her refit at Sheerness in April 1942. The model is scratch built and based on three well known photos, and so I have had to make a lot of educated guesses as to the details. 82 separate pieces of PE, and 38 bits of after market resin, plus plastic card, wire and putty. Very pleased with the end result. Full build thread can be found here P 44 6 1
Dads203 Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Now that’s really nice - But 1/700 scale, I’m struggling with 1/350 scale 🤪 1 4
Ngantek Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Magnificent Pete. Astonishing work. I work in 1/700 destroyer world but in spite of this, until you've seen a 1/700 flower in the flesh, it's impossible to appreciate quite how ludicrously tiny it is. The rigging is a excellent, how do you get that sag? And the canvas on the bridge wing guard rails? PVA? I wish I could buy one of your PE sets! What's coming next? Andy 1 1
Pete_W Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 Cheers guys, I guess you get used to working that small after I while, as I look at my FlyHawk 1/700 L Class kits and think wow - they are so large 🤣 26 minutes ago, Ngantek said: The rigging is a excellent, how do you get that sag? And the canvas on the bridge wing guard rails? PVA? I wish I could buy one of your PE sets! Andy - for the bulk of the rigging I used 0.046 wire. To get the sag I just cut a little longer than needed, and forced the sag when gluing each end down. As for the PE fret I'm sure something can be arranged. Unless you really do want the whole fret as is, I'd suggest I re-design the fret, correcting a couple of errors, removing some objects that are just to small to work with (twin lewis guns I'm looking at you) and create a layout for a couple of ships worth so that I can split an A4 fret in half. Otherwise you will end up with loads of spares. P 2
ArnoldAmbrose Posted March 25 Posted March 25 G'day Pete, she's beautiful. Superb work, and so small. I work in 1/600 scale and I appreciate how much smaller 1/700 really is. The rigging and PE is out of my league. Very well done. Regards, Jeff. P.S. - Not long out of refit? She didn't take long to start rusting. She must get worked hard. 🙂 1 1
Foghorn Leghorn Posted March 25 Posted March 25 What a teenie tiny little sucker that is, fantastic! 1

Thanks all for the very kind comments and likes. I am rather pleased with this one which has surpassed my expectations at the start. I'm a bit wary on starting the next one as the bar now seems very high ! P 1
Pete_W Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 and a couple of really close up shots so you can all the details flaws 😉 P 9 1 1
dnl42 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 That's truly outstanding work! I couldn't imagine doing that in 1/350, let alone half the size! 1
Jeff.M Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Wonderful work. I can only echo all of the previous comments on how remarkable this is at such a small scale. Very well done! Best, Jeff 1
beefy66 Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Scratch built and at such a small scale amazing build and display. Stay Safe Keith 1
Rob 1 Posted March 28 Posted March 28 (edited) That is very good work indeed, very well detailed, finished and presented. The later close up photos really look good particularly considering the small scale of this little ship. Edited March 28 by Rob 1 1
AeroNauticalEngineer Posted April 28 Posted April 28 That is incredible, such a small model must have taken some precision that my shaky hands could not replicate, excellent job. 1
