I haven't posted any new builds on here for a long time, so here's a long overdue set of photos of the Graf Spee in 1/350, backdated to slightly happier times for her in 1937, around the time of her ceremonial attendance at the King's Coronation fleet review.

The kit is the Academy Graf Spee, the premium kit with a nice wooden deck, some photo etch and finely turned metal barrels for all the main and secondary armament, and I added an Eduard full photo etch set, Black Cat twin 37mm mounts and single 20mm guns and crew. Back dating was interesting involving looking into the photos available from the relevant dates as quite a few alterations were made in a short space of time during her short career, this mostly needed some scratch built platforms for the main tower and around the funnel mounts, and some new search lights. Also despite searching far and wide there were no He 60 aircraft available so scratch built this too from scaled plans.

Ah, hadn't realised how much the photo hosting file compression would reduce the image quality, will try to upgrade my account.

Edit - have just upgraded the account with HobbyPhotoHost and now showing better images. I could go even larger but not sure how that would work on everyone's displays.

Outstanding work, you captured the beauty of those rather unique ships. The calm water surfacce is beautuiful too. The crew adds a much-needed sense of scale.

BTW I have fully moved away from "hobbyphotohost" due to image quality problems.  Just use https://imgbb.com/ instead for a more pleasant experience.

Outstanding model of this well known 'pocket battleship' as they were referred to.

Cannot add any more superlatives than previous posters.

Thanks for all the comments 🙂.

How I like to build is a fairly crisp ship with all the trimmings, then add the subtle weathering and crew to bring it to life.

Here's a few more to show some of the crew, did a bit of research on the uniforms which is the sort of thing that adds interest when carrying out the building.

Very impressive! I love the crew figures (not found too often on ship models) and the floatplane.
