In all honesty I dont really care, I just want to be pushed to build something that A. Does not fly and B. does not have a desil engine.

I really enjoy this site due to the diversity of the builds, cardboard to 3D printed and everything in between.

I love MK2 Escorts however would not build one for ths build as I beleive its not a muscle car however if someone did build one and enter it I would enjoy the build and the model.

I know I am new here but when you read all the commentx throughout the site it is easy to see the amount of helpful comments and advice given so I will put my preferred muscle car up against a fiat500 with a V8 fitted if someone had the audacity to build one.

Just love the idea....

As far as I see it with @IMG1 adding his name to the list, we just need 1 more gullible, sorry, I mean lucky person to join us to give us the 30 names to get into the bunfight :)

Aren't Corvettes only two seaters though - and I know it's stretching a point but the majority of 911's are 'four seaters'.... :)

Were they the favoured moonshine runners? That would be cool!

In another GB there was the build of a Trabant on steroids. Perhaps you will like the idea (and of course the result).

Now you opened a new can of worms 😁

If we ever get to the group build stage... and we then spend even half as much of our time and energy in actually building the car models, than now discussing what's a muscle car and what's not, this GB will see some tremendous results there

Much appreciated - this conversation has been interesting.  I thought I knew what a muscle car was/is, but it's hard to put rules on it.  I'll be in with some US 60s/70's goodness, and look forward to seeing Pony cars, Aussie 4 doors and others too!

Looking forward to it. As well as all the eras and definitions come to life.

I think the general idea is to find a reason to include a car, rather than exclude it. There's a limit to how far you can go with that though. It seems that it's not easy defining a Muscle Car although it's no problem  for each individual to know exactly what a Muscle Car is!

I'm adamant that they started with the first Pontiac GTO and ended in '74 with, fittingly, the Pontiac Super Duty Trans Am. Arguments start right away with my take on it. What about the 409 Chevrolets, the 300 series Chryslers, the 413 Mopars? They all have very good credentials for being included. Early Hudson Hornets should then be added, but somehow they just don't seem right. Rocket 88 Old's blur the lines as well. Is a 289 Mustang a Muscle Car, or should it at least have a big block to qualify?

As if defining a US built muscle car isn't hard enough, the rest of the worlds input is tailor made for an argument. A '69 Six Pack 440 Dodge Super Bee is most definitely a Muscle Car. It ticks every box. What about a Jensen 440SP though? Let that one in and it's hard to exclude Mopar powered Bristols. and before you know it someone wants to build a Gordon Keeble. Opal did a coupe with a 327 Chevrolet and Corvette rear suspension for a while. Would that fit the criteria? Good luck with finding the kits, but you get the drift.

Adding 911s to the mix makes excluding Corvettes look a bit odd. On the flip side of that coin, if a big block Corvette was OK then a Turbo 911 should sort of fit.

I think the current proposal of a late/early split is the best we are going to get. It's a simple formula that covers things well. Anomalies can be dealt with as they arise. A bit of common sense with proposed builds wouldn't go amiss, but as I said at the start, the idea would be to include rather than exclude.

Maybe a looser GB title might work. Muscle Cars: USA vs the Rest of the World might get things livened up a bit as well as broadening the appeal.

Now you see why I’m dizzy and hoping go get ideas and definitions to put some boundary marks to this.

As far as I know Chevy outside of the one off station wagon show car in the 1970’s. They’ve never built a 4 seater Corvette or 2+2 version. I’d be happy to learn different of course.

Initially I passed this one by as muscle cars aren't my bag, but then I remembered there's a Dodge Charger project on my wishlist. So sign me up

Bonus points if you can name the song and the band.

I know nothing of 'muscle cars' in detail but I think we need more cars in GBLand- my solution will be to come up with a list of kits I can get hold of and let the GB Massif decide- yes I might regret that later, and NO that isn't an option🤪, for clairification I mean let the GB Massif decide which ONE I build

In keeping with the original spirit of Dennis's proposal, I do have a Monogram 68 GTO in pieces, waiting for a rebuild that I was going to do last century. And 2 68 Dodge 440 6pac's in a similar state, just not as long, only about 10 years ago. And one other question if I may; does a 72 Nova SS (AMT or Revell) fit the bill?

Cheers,

Chris.

If and when this GB takes place I will definitely be going along with the original Muscle car concept of American V8, 2 door 2+2 format. Not sure what yet as I'll have to get one, but hopefully not the same as another picked for the GB

Me too, either the Camaro or Firebird I have - although these are apparently 'Pony cars' rather than muscle cars, while I was always under the impression that only a Mustang was a pony car cos they're both horses....!! 🤣 :hobbyhorse:

I too will go with a proper muscle car if this GB goes through. Something like Mustang Shelby GT350 should tick all the boxes.

A Nova SS most certainly fits the bill. Tough little things that punched well above their weight.

The cars built to compete with the original Mustangs picked up the name Pony Cars pretty quickly. If there ever was a firm line between them and Muscle Cars it's long been eroded.

Baldwin and Yenko stuffing big block Chevrolet motors in Cameros and Novas, Pontiac squeezing a 400 into the original Firbird and AMC using it's biggest engine in the Javelin, the 390, the list goes on and on.

aon

Original advertizing might help sort the wheat from the chaff. If the ad shows a bloke in a sports jacket and a flat cap looking a bit smug it's probably not a Muscle Car he's driving. If you can barely see the car for tire smoke or cartoon characters, I think it's a Muscle Car we are looking at. A rough and ready guide, but it at least shows the original intent of the car company.

One Mopar ad for the Road Runner didn't show the car at all. Just a great big graphic hippy font running across two pages, reading BEEP BEEP.. EEEEEEEYOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW..... Now that's a Muscle Car.

Brilliant - perhaps any car that does that should be the criteria for the GB...!! :)

I'm very sorry that Chevy decided to offer the 300hp L-48 350 as the 1967 Camaro's top-of-the-line small block option instead of the hi-revving, thunderous 350hp L-79 327 that was still available in Novas, Malibus and Chevelles - and Corvettes, of course.

I poppeddown to the shed to see if I could find the advert. Couldn't find that one, although it will turn up at some point.

I did find another that Plymouth did in the same style. You would need a whole load of mind altering substances to come up with a better car noise description that this one...

If a picture or two would sum up Muscle Cars, these two would be top ten contenders...

As builder of said Trabant, I’d just like to clarify that it’s definitely a super car and not a muscle car

(although I read somewhere that such a spec couldn't exist? What do I know, just love the song....!! :) )
