Hi guys,

This will be my second build of the GB (it would be easy to go bonkers with this theme),  a wrap-around camo Hawk T1. The scheme was prevalent with all RAF strike aircraft in the 80's so to me this kit is ideal for the GB. The kit was a gift from a friend of mine who, being a Scotsman, was rather attracted to the roundel bars!

Cheers, Dave

Another 80's classic that will go very well with your Tonka. The Hawk looks good in pretty much any scheme but the tactical camouflage suited it very well, especially with a rocket pod or Aim-9 under each wing.

Looking forward to this.

A small start has been made, the cockpit has been painted and assembled, and doesn't look as rough in reality as it does in the photo! I wasn't going to bother with seatbelts, but as it is annoying me, it is time to break out the Tamiya tape. The rear bulkhead has been rubbed down a bit to make sure the rear fuselage fits ok.

A nice start there :)

A little bit more done, the fuselage has been closed up and the air intakes added (with a bit of filler). I have added the Tamiya tape belts on the ejection seats as it looked wrong without anything on there.

Always a good milestone to get the fuselage closed

Airfix designed the kit so the nosewheel has to go in before the fuselage gets closed? Ooof! That's just asking to get broken off.

It may be possible to attach it afterwards but I didn't want to take the risk!

The airframe is now complete and canopy attached. The windscreen has been slightly short-shot, so I will apply primer and see how much I will need to fill. I have taken the SNEB pods and the canon from the original Airfix tooling of the Hawk (the canon in the newest tooling seems rather undersized) which will be attached after painting.

All cammed up, awaiting decals and weapons.

Now decalled and armed. Surprisingly, the decals really did not like Microsol, with the serials literally dissolving (aftermarket to the rescue). I used the SNEB pods from the original Airfix Hawk which was probably an error, as the heads are somewhat bigger than the body. Undercarriage and aerials next, then a coat of matt to finish.

That's looking good, decals always being a model to life

And we are done. I have managed to lose the tiny aerial above the nose and I am going to have to replace the SNEB pods as they really don't look right. The Master pitot looks a hell of a lot better than the stick supplied in the kit so I am pleased I bought it (and will get more for the other Hawk kits in the stash). I have always liked the Hawks in camo and I think this has picked up the general look of the scheme so I am reasonably satisfied. Now to concentrate on the F3!

What a fantastic result Dave, she looks superb. I always liked the Hawk in camo and your excellent model has captured the look of one perfectly, and the Master pitot probe was worth every penny.

Thanks for having taken part in the GB and very well done on producing such an excellent model.

A very fine looking Hawk, Dave, well done :clap2:It's amazing what a difference something small like an aftermarket pitot can make
