Hi,

I'm getting emails for posts on threads I'm following approximately 2 days later - my email is just a gmail one if that helps pin it down.  Just wondering if a) anyone else has seen the same thing, b) is there anything I can do to fix it and c) is there anything I can help to do to debug/track it down if b) isn't possible :)

Cheers

David

I'd go back to paper notifications - Royal Mail, even with it's problems, will deliver notifications quicker than the forum software does :fool:

a) yes

b) dunno, doubt it

c) @Mike might know

It's Gmail.  They have a habit of delaying our automated emails, and sometimes they just bin them off.  Kind of ironic really, as an awful lot of spam comes from Gmail addresses.  I don't know why they do it, and as you probably know, there's no point in trying to talk to them, as they're now just another evil corporation that isn't even slightly interested in talking to their customers or users.

Sorry guys, we'll either just have to put up with it, or you'll need to move your email to another provider.

The best work-around is to have in-line notifications pop up when you visit the site.  That way you don't have to rely on emails, and that's exactly what I do.  They're not delayed for me by more than half an hour (that bit is probably due to the server load and priority of tasks), but I pretty much ignore them.  TBH, I might as well turn them off, as I'm on the site a lot, so see the notifications 'live', as it were :)

I've seen such email notifications delays. Browser-based notifications are usually immediate.

Yep - that's why I use them.  I've switched most if not all of my email notifications off now, so that should remove a little bit of load from the server :)
