Jb65rams Posted February 20 Posted February 20 My entry is Hasegawa’s 1/48 F-104G Starfighter. I will be building it as the box art scheme. I going with this scheme as it makes me smile, bringing back memories of visits to Munich, the beer and visits to the Hofbrauhaus (other beer hall’s are available) and Oktoberfest. Going off topic, if you like wheat beer, I can recommend the Weißbierbrauerei Isarbräu located in the old station building at Großhesselohe Isartalbahnhof (S-Bahn). When inter-railing many years ago, travelling from Rome to Paris we detoured by Munich just to spend an afternoon in the brewery.🍺 12
Marklo Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Welcome to the GB. Funny I too went to Munich around the October fest and visited the Hofbrauhaus but I don’t remember it too well🍺🍺🍺🍺 ahem.. 2 1
franky boy Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Great choice of kit and markings! And another thumbs up for the Hofbrauhaus although I too don’t remember leaving. James 2 1
Jb65rams Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 My F-16 GB entry is in a holding pattern waiting for the delivery of some paint, should arrive this weekend. My Give Peace a Chance entry has stalled as I have realised I prefer sticking bits of plastic together too making intricate flowers out of paper. Given that I thought I would make a start on the F-104. Below some of the aftermarket I am looking at using. First up was the cockpit. Second time using these Kelick 3D printed decals and I like them. General use some thinned down pva glue fix them in place. CA was used on the straps where I needed to bend them to fit. Couldn’t resist dryfitting the fuselage together. 11
hakkikt Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Having not only a soft spot for the Erdnagel but also relatives in and fond memories of Bavaria, I will naturally follow this build. Cockpit looks great with those 3D decals!
stevej60 Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Great start Jb,I'm loving my first build of this kit reall changed my views on Hasegawa's brittle plastic just needs care.
Jb65rams Posted April 7 Author Posted April 7 With paint drying on my F-16 build, I turned my attention to the F-104. Dropped the flaps and slats just to add a little more visual interest. Almost ready for primer. 8
Jb65rams Posted April 27 Author Posted April 27 The majority of the painting has been completed. Just need to tidy up some paint bleeds. 7
Jb65rams Posted May 4 Author Posted May 4 Made a start on the decals. lt’s official, I hate Hasegawa decals. This is the only my third Hasegawa kit in the last few years, I have struggled with the decals on every build. They don’t want to release from the backing sheet easily, have to use warm water to aid the process. They also fracture easily, had to piece together most of decals placed to date. My previous builds, I resorted to aftermarket decals, don’t have the option for this build. Will get there but it will be slow process. 8
Jb65rams Posted May 16 Author Posted May 16 Finished applying the decals. They continued to fight me all the way. Ended up masking the red stripe on the rear fuselage and painting it, using an Ak paint marker. 8
Jb65rams Posted May 18 Author Posted May 18 Calling this finished. Enjoyed the build, bar the decals. Having finished this build, I have run into a problem! I have no space left on my display shelves. 8

Jb65rams Posted May 26 Author Posted May 26 Final photos taken and gallery updated. Thanks for a great GB. Even with the decal struggles, I am happy with the way it turned out. 6 2

hakkikt Posted May 27 Posted May 27 She looks great! I can almost hear a wooden hammer and someone shouting "O'zapft is!"
Ned Posted May 27 Posted May 27 That looks really nice. And a Starfighter is perfect for squeezing into a space on a crowded shelf.
