HL-10 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Kitty Hawk's UH1D is a lovely kit with loads of detail that is a joy to build. I added a set of excellent figures from Paracel. They are 3D printed and the two sets cover the pilots & gunners in one, and some infantry in the process of jumping out of the Huey in the other. The model was painted with Tamiya & Mr Color acrylics the figures were painted with Humbrol enamels. The base was made with papier mache. I also scratch built the leaves. Thanks for looking Angelo. 40 2 7 1
billn53 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 That’s really, really good. The figures give a great sense of action. Thanks for sharing. 1
Toryu Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Great action diorama! The Huey and crew have the right looks. 1
Keeff Posted February 15 Posted February 15 That is very impressive! As mentioned, the figures give a sense of action and movement and I really like how you've placed the Huey just above the ground .... Keith ☺️ 1
Pete in Lincs Posted February 15 Posted February 15 A great model of a great Helicopter. I like the name too. Tree stumps were apparently a great danger (besides everything else) to Huey's in Vietnam. I love the sound of a Huey's rotor. 1
georgeusa Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Oh man, does this bring back some memories of being dumped out of Hueys in strange and oddly hostile environments. You always hoped that when you jumped out, you then didn't sink up to your ankles in much because of the landing site choice. An exceptionally well done Huey and the way you have posed the figures is pretty realistic. Great job. As a side note, I, like many others, have tinnitus from leaving the doorways as the door gunner is rattling off rounds about a foot away from your head as you leave. Thanks for sharing. 2
Vultures1 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Very nice work! That's a great little diorama too - well done 👍 1
AlxBNE Posted February 15 Posted February 15 You have captured that iconic image really well with this model. The figures and diorama really bring it to life. 1
Retired Bob Posted February 15 Posted February 15 lovely Huey and fantastic diorama, very realistic. 1
HL-10 Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 Thanks guys, I really appreciate your comments and compliments 😊 It was a project that I have always wanted to do and when I found the excellent figures from Paracel Miniatures, it made it doable. 1
CMSCHLOM Posted February 17 Posted February 17 AS an old HUEY pilot this is a nice job. The uneven paint scheme is pretty accurate. Constantly in the weather and always being touched up. 1

The Scotsman Posted February 17 Posted February 17 nice one mate like the weathering on it - good to see another helicopter finished 1
HL-10 Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 Georgeusa and CMSCHLOM, thank you both very much! It means a lot when people who flew or worked on the machine comment and compliment. Greatly appreciated and many thanks. 1
