WH_Models Posted February 13 Posted February 13 As we are currently enjoying some snow cover, I guess it is a good time to present my first attempt to depict worn winter camouflage on Eduard's Fw 190A-4. 37 1 11 3
Winded Penguin Posted February 13 Posted February 13 First impression: convincing. Great effort on the winter camouflage 👍 1 1
Mycapt65 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Beautiful job. Especially on the winter finish. Can you elaborate on the method you used? Thanks Ron 1
WH_Models Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 (edited) Thank you for your encouraging comments, guys. So, here is the procedure. 1] I applied the standard RLM 74/75/76 camouflage, using Mr. Paint Colours. 2] A layer of gloss lacquer coat and then I masked off the areas which were not supposed to be covered with white colour. 3] The upper surfaces then received a coat of AK Heavy Chipping fluid. After it dried, I applied uneven thin layers of acrylic White (GSI H). 4] Chipping and weathering was achieved by the standard procedure, i.e. moisturing the surface with water and scratching the paint with brush and toothpick. Finally, everything is sealed with gloss clear lacquer again. 5] And the rest.... Markings, decals and semigloss clear coat... 6] ... some staining to make it look cool and dirty 😉 ... I hope you enjoy! Edited February 13 by WH_Models 13 4 4
Armorrich Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Man I wish I could get a finish even close to that. Having the tools is good but having talent is even better...well done!! Cheers...Rich 1 3
georgeusa Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Your first attempt at a weathered winter camo scheme is first rate and amazing. Really nice to look at. Thanks for sharing. 1
Winded Penguin Posted February 14 Posted February 14 The best thing about winter camo is you don't have to worry too much about placing all the stencils 😉 2
Parabat Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Meant to comment yesterday but got distracted by the tutorial! Exceptional build, that's a brilliant Wurger. 1
Peter W Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) Really eyecatching build, love the weathering, and photography. Pete Edited February 15 by Peter W 1

Mycapt65 Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Thank you for showing us your winter camo technique. I'll have to find some AK heavy chipping fluid. I once tried doing a temporary black over multiple layers of colors and decanted Hairspray. My results weren't close to yours. I found the airbrushed Hairspray left an unacceptable pebbly finish. I shelved the model until I learned something better. LIKE THIS. Thank you. Ron
Hairtrigger Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Very good result. Appreciate the tutorial as well..
