Maddoxx77 Posted February 10 Posted February 10 This is part 2 of my Kitty and Sledgehammer diorama. The Tiger got finished today so i made a start with this Russian howitzer. These things were used during the defence of Leningrad so it is pretty likely that the 2 models would have crossed eachothers path during the winter of 1943. This model is from Zvezda. And compared to the RFM tiger this feels quite different. The plasic feels a bit softer and there is a lot more flash and cleaning up to do. However the fit is decent and the details are good. The partcount is pretty low and there is no PE or decals involved. Pretty straight foreward building. And after an hour this is what i got as a start. The gun is dryfitted to check the angles. The lower frame consists of seperate parts so it is important to check the fit and to make shure all the angles are correct. That's it for now. I'll keep you guys posted. Cheers! 🍻🍻🍻 15

Maddoxx77 Posted February 22 Author Posted February 22 Time for a weekly update. Been quite buisy but i squeezed some benchtime in here and there. I have to say this is a lovely zvezda kit. The fit of the parts is really good, the detail on the parts look clean. There is some cleanup required, mostly seamlines but nothing too difficult. The build is logical and there are no issues what so ever. So, this week was all about building. And adding a lot of details. Building up the drivetrain and tracks required a lot of sub assemblies. All together it creates a realistic and detailed track section. The kit comes with link'n length tracks. The upper part even has sagg. Great stuff. When the build was complete i added some texture on parts to look like rough steel. I used mr surfacer 1500 and stippled it on. Also, one little thing. If you want the hoist beam in transport mode, don't build it up like the instructions tell you to. Leave the top part of and shove it trough the ring on the side. Then fit the top part. I primed the whole thing with one shot primer. I used red brown. Mostly because i'm still not shure how i want to paint this model. This red brown primer gives me the option to create a rusted up piece of armour. Looking at reference photo's these things deffinetly showed rust, however a friend pointed out that in the scene i'm creating this wouldn't occur simply because it takes years exposed to the elements to create rust like in the photo. With that knowledge i started painting the model with various shades of reseda green mixed with BO4 green. Highlights were applied using dunkelgelb and this will serve as a basecoat for chipping. I will chip green on green to create a worn paint look. That's it for now. Cheers guys! 🍻🍻🍻 14 1 1
Keeff Posted February 22 Posted February 22 This is looking great! You get to appreciate how big it is when you see the tracks .... Nice work on the details and painting as always! Keith ☺️ 1 1
