Spitfire MkIXc late of Pierre Clostermann ,602nd squadron ''City of Glasgow'', advanced airfield B11 at Longues-sur-Mer, Normandy, july 1944 - Eduard 1/48

First kit of the year, and also my first Eduard and my first 1/48 kit.

I wanted my first 1/48 to feel special, and since one of my favourite book ever is ''The big show'' of Clostermann the answer was pretty easy for me.

I tried to represent the plane in a dusty state in one of the advanced landing strip built by Commandos after the Dday. 602 was one of the first squadrons to land and be deployed in a france strip after Dday, and according to sources and the book B11 airport was literally a strip of sand, dust and a few blades of grass, with pilots living in tents near the planes and everything extremely dirty.

I added a picture of a Spitfire of another squadron on that airfield at the end so you can have an idea of it and an original picture of this Spitfire. I included also a picture of the model in the sunlight  because I think the lightbox created a light too much artificial and too much shadows on the model, so you can compare the two impressions.

As usual I made many mistakes and imperfections, the most noticeable are some light inaccuracies on the camo pattern, and the invasion stripes and the sky band should have been closer to the tail. But with almost 60 hours of work on this little diorama I'm pretty happy with the final result.

Kit is the wonderful MkIXc late Profipack , never seen a kit with so many details before, making other brands looking like toys, but suffers imo of some faults:

- some over engineered parts like the exhausts or the 2 part engine cowl for example, making you question why they complicate the building phase so much

-decals had some really bad silvering, and roundels were so thicc that rivets didn't show up even after 6 layers of Microsol on them

-color guide WRONG, with incorrect colors and names. A really big mistake I wasn't expecting from them.

I added the eduard resin flaps (I know they were lowered only during maintenance, but I really love parked planes with their flaps lowered) and a pilot from Barracuda. The pilot was painted by a friend of mine because I never did a miniature before and I wanted it to look good lol

All airbrushed with vallejo  model air, weathering done with vallejo pigments and abteilung oil.

Thanks for watching, and critics are really welcome!

A beautiful result,  plane and scene too! 👍

For a next model, I understand (but haven't tried myself yet) that some Eduard decals can have the carrier film peeled away.  Maybe a way to get them less thick? See a.o.

Thanks dude! Sadly according to the box this kit was the one manufactured in 2014, so the decals were the standard type, and sadly not really good

Wow, an absolutely stunning Spitfire 👏👏👏

The pilot, diorama and weathering all come together to make a very interesting and impressive scene.

I have had mixed results with the new Eduard decals, I used lots of clear cote before applying them and another good dowsing after.

I haven't tried to take the film off as yet, I'm a coward....

Your Spit is a cracker, nice one.

Hope your build does feel special - it certainly looks special!

"The Big Show" is one of my favourites too and I recall the all, pervading dust Closterman mentions after his first landing in France - and the lorryload of ammunition he hid under for protection from an enemy air raid!

Very nicely done :goodjob:. Effective and realistic setting, too.

But as it's Clostermann, I'll ask my usual question in French: "Le levier du volet est un peu collant, n'est-ce pas, monsieur ?" :coolio:

You did an excellent job on this Spitfire and the diorama you made really sets the kit off and makes a statement.  Thanks for sharing.
