Hello everyone!

I am a big general aviation fan. But unfortunately there are countless small aircraft suach as Mooneys, Cessnas, Socatas, Becechcrafts and so on and so forth for which there are no kits available. That is why I started building different types of small aircraft all by myself all in scale 1:72.

I would like to show you one of my current projects. It is a Jodel DR 250-160 Capitaine, a small 3-seater made in France in the 1960's. Even though only around 100 examples of this version of the type were built, many of them are still active today. Even here in little Switzerland there are 8 specimens who remain airworthy!

At first the fuselage and the wings are carved out of wood which is then sanded untill smoth. The small parts are made of plastic in the same way. As with the wheel pants, I also cast symmetrical parts in advance.

Then I make a mould out of silicone from which the negative is created. The mould for the fuselage is in two parts. The rest are single part moulds. These  are then filled with epoxy resin and the kit is finished. With this methode I'm also able to built an aircraft as often as i like!

This is what the finished kit looks like. Parts such as antennas, door handles and the propeller are made by hand and are not duplicated.

After a week of drying it's time to put some paint on an stick it together. Except for the decals and some details the model is almost finished. As soon as I get it finished I will be happy to share the result as well.

If someone is interested, I can describe the process in detail for the next model. Maybe one of you uses similar methods and has good suggestions and tricks!

Cheers Manuel

I'm here to learn, so feel free to tell us all about it!

Nice work! The solid transparent resin takes me back to making canopies out of solid perspex and the interesting optical effects that you get with that. I have cast a replacement tailplane in resin, but never a whole wing.

I would be tempted to vac form the fuselage, but the other components all seem to be working out nicely for you.

Adrian

Great work - with the silence from VFR models who DID make Socatas, Mooneys etc in 1/72 I agree there is nothing else out there!

Thanks for the feedback! Cool to see that you are interested in my method. I will soon be making a mold for a Beechcraft Travelair. I will document the process and then share it here.

Excellent work, I do like a scratch built project.
