I will join this GB with an ambitious project - A 1/32 Tamiya F-16 MLU conversion in Danish livery.

Here is some photos of the parts to be used, collected over the last three years.

Kit:

Tamiya 1/32 F-16CJ

Conversion parts:

Kasl Hobby: NSI intake, vertical tail, light landing gear, gear bay doors and weel well details.

Reskit: PW F100 exhaust and wheels.

CMK: Armament set.

Eduard: Targeting pod.

Resin PIDS pylons.

Stoppel or Lima November decals.

Maybe the project is to big for a three month build, but at least it will get this build started.

I did a test build on the 1/48 Tamiya F-16C converted to a Danish MLU which is almost done, så hopefully it will end up looking like this, only bigger (and without all the open electronics bays open)

Welcome to the GB and the Group Build section. You have an impressive array of aftermarket goodies collected for this project and the 48th scale one looks stunning :goodjob:

Wow, that’s an impressive project! I’m building a 1/48 RDAF F-16AM so will watch your build with interest as I’m sure I will learn much from it. 👍

First run on the cockpit.

I love that cockpit! All the controls are hand painted? Did you use cocktail sticks to paint the knobs?

Great kit

Thanks Shep.

yes it’s hand painted with ligt grey and dark red with a cocktail stick. Now a quick wash to tone down the panel lining a bit.

The Danish MLU cockpit is a bit boring as it is all black though.

Working on the seat. DIY lambs wool cushion made with a strip of masking tape covered with ammo putty stippled with a stiff brush.

Such a simple process and yet it gives an effective result. Nicely done :)

First problems to be solved - any help are welcome.

1: Landing gear. I bought a Kasl Light weight landing gear, but when i compare it to the Tamiya one, the Tamiya looks more “skinny” than the Kasl (on the photo the Kasl is the white one).

Those Kasl parts certainly look to be on the sturdy side. I had a quick look at some photos in the Verlinden Lock On book and they compare well to the units shown in there.

Working on the vertical tail fin today.

So far it’s the hardest part to get right.

The Kasl MLU fin comes with parashute housing which is not on the Danish planes.

I have frankensteined the tail by using the Kasl hobby front of the fin base, the rest is Tamiya that i have to reshape to get it right. More work than i had expected, but it is coming along slowly.

Next challenge is to connect the fin to the fuselarge and correct the panel lines in that area 🙂

Your surgery looks a lot neater than how Dr. Frankenstein's is popularly shown to be. Nice work.

Nice progress

Thanks @Col.. It’s really funny to make a kit that is mainly held together with screws 🙂

Today’s progress.

Base of the tail fin has been installed.

The sorrounding area has been filled with superglue for rescribing.

Underwing Stores have been assembled and puttied, waiting for the sanding process.

’Beer cans’ on the slats have been removed and the area tidied up.

Still a long way to go but the kit builds faster than i thought 🙂
