neilspen Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I am a sucker for the Airfix vintage boxtop art work and this one captured my imagination, that and I had recently watched an old BBC documentary about the conflict in Aden, which featured one of these supplying a desert outpost. I should have known it would be a terrible kit to put together, which it was, particularly the 2 piece cockpit glazing, which did not have much definition and consequently I ad-libbed a bit with what was clear and what was metalwork. I lost a load of the proud rivets and did not have the stamina to do anything about it, so just stuck the paint and decals on and went with it out of the box and one of the kits schemes. I did replace the 2 pilot figures, as the ones in the kit looked more like a pair of chauffeurs than pilots. I did not bother with much weathering. Thanks for looking and if you comment, please be kind. 🙏😉 38
Keeff Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Looks very good to me! The mouldings on the vintage classics are old tool, so still the quality as was .... along with the build problems! Well done on a good job! Keith ☺️ 1
Darwinism Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Great work Neil! I know how much work the Airfix Classics can be - I nearly threw the Rotodyne against the wall a few times - so congratulations on persevering. 1
jean Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Brilliant! I hate rivets, but it would have been a sin to remove them on this kit. You have done a grand job. Congrats!!!! JR. 1
The Shearwater Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Much as I love vintage Airfix, their clear glazing is often horrid! You’ve made a great model here though 👍 1
Billy54 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Very nice I think you did an excellent job especially considering what you had to work with. When I saw your first image I immediately looked up to my Airfix calendar on the wall and was reminded that we are now in February. 1
Ad-4N Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Fantastic work. I always thought that helicopter had a Gerry and Sylvia Anderson vibe to it. 1
Billos Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Nicely done. Just got one of these. Just to be awkward, I've decided to model it as an inservice HC-1, which means I have to find some way of completely redoing the tail surfaces to the angled anhedral shape without the tailfins... I forsesee a lot of cutting and *##!!ing. 1
kapam Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I think I built one of these as a kid. Needless to say, it didn't look anywhere near as good as this! Very well done! 👍👍 1

stevej60 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 love a classic Airfix build, happy memories of this kit built in an hour or two Saturday morning bought from the hardware shop with my paper round money, great job. 1
Pete1961 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 You are to be congratulated on completing this model to a good standard despite all the flaws of an old kit. 1
