F-32 Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Hi guys, I'm looking to update my lense, I'm also a new father and heavily sleep deprived so wanted to ask for advice before spending the money. I have a Canon EOS 5D mark 2 and want to get a Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM Lens. Will it fit? I'm thinking no because the mounts are different, but wanted to double check.
Mike Posted January 31 Posted January 31 No. You can get adapters to mount EF and EF-S lenses on an R series camera (R5, R6 etc.), but unless you can turn something up on Google, I don't think there's a reverse option, as the lenses operate in a fundamentally different manner. ...and no, I'm not 100% certain. I never am EDIT: R series cameras, and RF series lenses are mirrorless. Smaller, and lighter than the previous ones, so I'm told. What? I can look, can't I?
Tijuana Taxi Posted Sunday at 12:08 PM Posted Sunday at 12:08 PM Even if such a converter was available (it isn't) I doubt it would autofocus on a 5D2 with that aperture range. Sold all my Canon FF gear ages ago and went mirrorless, mainly for the weight and size saving.
F-32 Posted Sunday at 12:56 PM Author Posted Sunday at 12:56 PM Thanks guys, I ended up going with a Sigma 150-600, looking forward to trying it out at the Cosford show in June. 1
