Tijuana Taxi Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Not sure what's going on, but my secondhand Smart Jet Pro is running continuously. The pressure switch seems ok, cuts out at 50 psi and fires back up at around 35psi. My understanding was it should also switch on when the airbrush trigger is depressed and cut off again when its released. I bought this to give my old Sprint Jet a rest which is designed to run all the time. Reviews I have watched of the Smart Jet Pro show it only firing up on demand. Have I got it wrong or does my compressor have a fault Thank you
Ngantek Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Hang on, it correctly cuts out at 50psi, and yet runs continuously? I feel like only one of these can be true. The compressor of course doesn't magically sense when you're pressing the trigger. If it is on continuously, either the cutout doesn't work (it's trying to continue to pump at as high a pressure as the pump can physically sustain) or there's a constant leak somewhere, either in your hose or in your airbrush, or perhaps less likely, in somewhere in the pump itself.
Tijuana Taxi Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 I thought it should only work on demand? Perhaps I've worded it badly, so I'll start again If I set the gauge at 20 psi I expected the compressor to run at that pressure when the trigger is depressed. When released as in stopped spraying the motor should I thought cut out. The 50psi I assumed was the max it could achieve whereupon it would turn off. So yes it should according to the instructions sense when air is required and operate.

I had a similar problem with my Chinese knock off - turns out there was a pinhole link in the air reservoir (no doubt due to corrosion). I plugged it with 2 part epoxy and its been fine for months now. If the compressor isn't designed for continuous running there is a risk of it overheating. Cheers Colin

It will probably in perfect circumstances still pump for several seconds after releasing the trigger on your brush to recoup lost pressure.
Tijuana Taxi Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Stays on regardless, left it for 30 seconds and still pumping air.
Ngantek Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Okay so the next question is, can you locate a leak in the system? If the hose is sealed off, does it the stop. I'm sorry I'm being dense; if it stays on all the time, how then is the pressure switch working by cutting it out? 17 hours ago, Tijuana Taxi said: The pressure switch seems ok, cuts out at 50 psi and fires back up at around 35ps

Basically why you pay extra for the smart jet pro over the smart jet. All stripped down now and after cleaning i'll reassemble and go from there. I'll update this thread when I see what happens, thanks for your interest. 1
Tijuana Taxi Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 Checked every joint with leak detecting solution, found a few bubbling and sealed with plumbing tape. Still no auto shut off, made a few calls and it seems its a faulty pressure switch. The on and off at 30 and 50 which does work is now confirmed as separate to the auto shut off function.
