Antoine Posted January 29 Posted January 29 (edited) Time to change my mind from the Skyhawk I need a small kit without any extras, just the most simple plastic. By chance, I've this MiG-15 handy as I did have already a go at it in the past months. Not a brand new kit (1996), but it does looks nice nevertheless. Still, I believe that there are a few things wrong about the shape, one being the angle between the fin forward edge and the upper fuselage (feel free to educate me if needed). To me, it doesn't look that wrong, and didn't even check, as I think I can live with that. Whatever, I'll tell you! Edited January 29 by Antoine
Antoine Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 (edited) There something a bit special with this kit. It's possible to leave the engine exposed still attached to the aircraft, with the whole tailplane on a cart beside. Problem is that Tamiya assume that this is the way most of us will take, and conception of the kit was done with this in mind. And so the end result is that building the kit with the rear fuselage attached is not that straightforward.... And all I wanted was a simple kit... So I made it simple, and started to glue together the frontal and rear part on each side. And while I was at it, I did the same for the wings and the horizontal tailplane. Antoine Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 But the result is not that good... Maybe it was not the best idea I had... Well, we'll see.
Antoine Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Seeing this like that, you could believe it is nearly finished! Well, but not at all. There are still three sub-assemblies to build before yu can close the fuselage. - The frontal air intake. See the place where the landing light is, with the bottom painted alu. The cupola itself is in chrome, with a yellow bulb! (remember!)
Antoine Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 - The aft section with the engine Of course, the interior is nearly complete, and with the whole engine, that is some weight!. There is a counter weight offered by Tamiya to be installed up front under the pit, but I still wanted to get rid of most of the engine, keeping only the exhaust, kept in place by a plastic disc of mine.
Antoine Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 (edited) So the last item to build and put inside before closing the fuselage is the pit. I tacckle the seat straight away. I have usually the bad habit to leave the work on the seat for the last minutes, and I've loads of 95% finished builds that are waiting for a few minutes of attention to their seats! In this case, the KK-1 comes from the kit, and looks fine to me. I did just add a photo etched harness, from a VVS PE Pocket and that was that! Edited January 30 by Antoine
Antoine Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 The cockpit in itself looks nice, but I had some hard times just to paint the dashboard! I'm sure I did it about ten times, before deciding that enough is enough, and leave it as it was. Still, I'm not happy with the result. So, I painted it black, with a white vertical stripe in the middle, then a drybrush in whte, and finaly a few touches of colour here and there, red, white, orange and green for switches/bulbs/pushbuttons, etc... There was no problems with the pit itself, cockpit colour then a drybrush with the same plus a drop of white, followed by another in full white only for the consoles, again a few touches of colour, black and brown panel line wash. And finally a matt varnish, with a drop of gloss varnish in each "clock". 1

Shall we keep the PM discussion to ourselves, or can I tell everyone you forgot to tell me which thread you wanted moving? Oh!!! That one was below the belt!!! No you shan't, of course! I've had a good reputation so far, and I hope to maintain it!!!! But.... but;.. If you choose the other way, I'll suggest an extension of the conversation to include other subject, if you don't mind! Like what? Can"t say, really, we could speak about European Swallows vs African swallows, but as an exemple, right now, I'm thinking about.... Wild Weasel Great idea, don't you think? 1
