Mals Way Posted January 28 Posted January 28 (edited) Allright, new project. The kit, Border Models, scale 1:35, real sjort review. Its not great, its not bad, if in fpr Tamiya feel so forget it, also the manual shows several errors numper parts, minor detaling, no IP decals, or clear parts for the Revi gunsight, instead plastic non transparent parts. But fun to build som far. Allright, let the pictures talk, adding details, then primer. Exhaust pipes weathered Ignitions wires, make em pop out. Edited March 13 by Mals Way 18 1
Mals Way Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Cockpit time. Yaikes, lacking details, IP is sad, so lets dress it, no decal provided for this so found some scrap decal dials Hasegawa 1/32....yes will work just fine for this fun build. Dryfitting, this will do just fine for me. Gha, fuelpipe could been clear part, well cut away the middle part, later replaced with clear sprue. Like so. Adding details, to make it more alive. Primer on Painted and weathered. This will do just fine fore me on this project, little of a quicy build, fun. 19 1

Did som quick wiring create snakes nest and olumming just to make it pop out little and make it look interesting, yes more can be added if want to, but this is good enough for me. Make it look cool wont go bananas on this build, just have fun and quicky. Little dirtier than i usually do on my builds. Edited January 28 by Mals Way 1
David H Posted January 28 Posted January 28 (edited) Very nice work so far Mal. I'm not really invested in the BF-109 much less a 35th scale one, but i was curious to see how one of these kits builds up. Nice to see one being built by very experienced, competent hands. There have been many exploding heads caused by Border's choice of 1/35 scale and OCD scale reconciliation issues. It appears Border is setting out to create a market segment for itself via brute force of offerings it seems. -d- Edited January 28 by David H 1
Karearea Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Beautiful work- thoroughly enjoyed your B-17 build so this one will be great to watch. 1

Also its my first 1:35 aircraft kit. its not good, its not bad...it got issues, if in for Tamiya fit, or Hasegava, then forget it, those who built Eduards Me109s, easy peasy....experianced builder that done shortruns and all that easy... if focus on getting it all together without extra (i dif little) then i think it will be no problems, if i to get it builded, it got many similarities to Trumpeters Bf109 1:32 kits imo, so if used, no fuzz then... (still remember my B-17 Airfix, bad sample, second hand, know why it were so cheap lol) just to ad, got this one cheap to, second hand, unopened plastic bags Edited January 28 by Mals Way
Mals Way Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 Reset my buildroom, its mine, all mine alone, not to be shared. all guns and brushes been cleaned... 1 1

Thanks....im glad that you liked that one, Mals Way how to do. Key ingredient, have fun when building. as i usually say in forums, steal, improve, have fun, give back, and have a helluva time building it at same time 2
Mals Way Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Little done, adjusted some weathering, and harness in place, also kristal kleer is drying, it will be clear glasses on the instruments when dried. 7
Mals Way Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Ok getting closer with fuselag glueing, one thing i noticed early in the kit when dryfitted even before i started this build, there supposed to be a panel line over the back and rivets, if glued now and scribe in new panel line between glued joints, well everyone knows bad idea, as plastic still soft for long period of time and risk damaging..and get setbacks on a build. so easy peasy, knock of the edge gently on the fuselage halfes, and dryfit so to get that panel line wide enough and match the rest of them panel lines, also riveted using Radubs tool riveter, used tape as a guide. time saving. this will do just fine for me. 2
Mals Way Posted January 30 Author Posted January 30 Glue time, fuselage halfes, panel line and rivets looking nice, rail over the engine pimped it on underside with wire harness.... went smooth. underside Topside. 8
Mals Way Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 This kit do have minor fit issues, easy peasy fix, as want to avoid putty and grinding wit sandpaper..time saving if heads up early. talking about the fuselage and wing, plastic card does the trick, forcing panels in to place, and hardly no gaps.. Also now the Kristal Klear dried propely, two layers, This will do just fine for me. 9
Mals Way Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Oh yes...two small lumps...drill em out, and replace em lumps with tubes, made em out of 0.4 mm syringe. 1
Mals Way Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 Allright late time changes, never good doin it at this point....but nah. doin it anyway. one more pipe over the engine block, also them two red pipes, ere to stark, to much pop out, so they are now fixed, little more weathering, and i consider it done. this works for me on this build, so to say good enough for me and will do just fine. 8
Mals Way Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 Haha...funny. Do Border Models have sense of humor, if so its hilarious. or did they do their research from the movie Red Tails when they planned this model... Behold fellow builders, Totenkopf Geshwader.... 2
Mals Way Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Droptank, modified it a little, Tube in front were made from a syringe, and that steelbelt wrapped around the droptank enhanced with thinned plastic card. Way better, suits me just fine. Getting closer for paint. 6
Mals Way Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 Well...theese lights have to go, grey plastic wont do for me. Better and theese will do just fine for me on this build. 6
Mals Way Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 (edited) Little done, lots of work this week, looking forward to the weekend, up Saturday morning and build al day long. hopefully. Revi gunsight got some treatment, gave it a lens, tinted it red a little. well looks line this cockpit works after all. remember its a quicky and fun build, nothing else lol Edited February 6 by Mals Way 3
Adam Poultney Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Wow... solid lights in this scale? Eduard included proper lights even in their 1/72 kits. 1
Mals Way Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Yeah. i know. There are solid grey parts instead of clear parts where supposed to be clear glass in this model haha, one of them were the nav lights, that Border Models could done some effort doing so, instead you get optional engine cowling in clear parts, and yes not to mention the revi gunsight glass, yes youve guessed it, grey solid plastic lol, but thats easy peasy do my own from clear plastic. But still damn fun to build this kit
Mals Way Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Little done, last steps before the paintjob that will happen tomorrow saturday, jihaa, all day for myself... Antenna insulator on the fuselage, mark it out using an awl, so that the drillhead dont dancing around make a wiggly wobbly hole, we do not want to have that hey, used a syringe to create that insulator, nice angle, going to look cool, small details that gives a whole. and glue it with fresh CA, the capillary force is strong, and voila. that will do just fine for me. 3
Mals Way Posted February 8 Author Posted February 8 Yaih, that hole size of King Kong. "Lift here" point, brass pipe perfect tube for a sleeve. Next masking time. And in place. 6
