JeroenS Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Hi all, I really like me a nice pick 'm up truck, I dare say my favourite modelling subject next to the big semi trucks. I have a soft spot for stepside pickups, and I love square bodies too. Well, this one meets both criteria. I believe we should call this truck a K10, where the K stands for 4x4, as opposed to the C10 trucks which are 2 wheel drive. The Scottsdale package encompassed a higher trim level, with fancy trim and striping and some interior stuff as well. I had it in the stash for a while and felt like building something not too complicated. My goal for 2025 is to enjoy building again and finish more than the measly 4 I built last year. I'm already halfway there! Anyway... I tried not to rush the build and that worked for the most part. Very enjoyable build for such an old kit, newly tooled by Monogram in 1978. It does show its age in places, for example the interior is rather basic, but then again, the decals really spruce things up a bit. These are the only pics I took during the build, and they're not very good either 🙂 But you get the idea. The box art show the mirrors on a "tripod" but those were so bulky they would have been out of scale on a 1/8 vehicle. I just sort of made something work. In fact, if I have to nominate a low point in the kit it's the mirrors. A bit too bulky if you ask me. Otherwise, a very nice build. I tried replicating the brownish/reddish colour but my mix wanted to stay on the brownish side, however I'm quite happy with it. The kit was built OOB, except for the bed which I made out of wooden coffee stirrers, and I added some real chain on the tailgate. Lastly, I sanded off the moulded on wipers and replaced them with some items from Scale Production. They're rubber, which surprised me, but they work well on a model like this. Let's have some pics then. These rear lights are red by the way, but the pics don't show that very well. Managed to get some decent interior pics this time. Thanks for watching! 22 1
SnøMotion Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Love a square body! Great weathering, too, this truck really looks its age Martin 1 1
Spiny Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Got to be honest, I'd be delighted if I could get four built to this standard in one year. Good to hear that you're getting your modelling mojo back, I guess that Golf has been taking its toll? 1
keefr22 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 That's a cracking Chevy Jeroen, really great modelling! Fantastic representation of a proper workhorse! Top work! Keith 1
Pete in Lincs Posted January 22 Posted January 22 You've made a very nice job of that one. I've been watching several pick up restorations recently. I know that one of them was a Scotsdale. Not a trim level I knew of. They were on the tube, Possibly Simon Fordmans site. These are in effect almost silent movies as he doesn't speak. Only young, but his work is great to watch. 1 1

dnl42 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 That very much looks the part! The body paint wear and rust is spot-on! Sum wrappers and other paraphernalia on the dash, floor, and bed wouldn't look out of place, either 1
Alpha Delta 210 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Another cracking model! I truly admire the way that you can transform painted plastic into worn-out steel!🫡 1

I'd go crazy thinking "where to stop?" 1
Jbourne124 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 @JeroenS good to see you back at it, if you need words of encouragement let me know! 1

Jbourne124 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 You’re weathering is believable, the bed is a knockout, even the tattered boards give it more realism, and I’m stoked to see you finish the golf this year as im sure you’re the only one to attempt to make a 3door mark 3. Which still blows me away, I feel as though the 3 doors were more common than the more civilian 5 door but, hey what do I know? 1
cherry268 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Lovely model with realistic weathering Must be from Southern states -no rust!!😀 1
klubman01 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Another fabulous model. As others have said, your ability to make plastic look like rusted, grubby steel is amazing. I particularly like the scuffed and faded upholstery. Trevor 1
Anteater Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Ooh, nice work, very convincing. That bench seat looks superbly un-inviting. 1
Mpfiend Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) This is very nice Jeroen The weathering looks spot on. Regards Keith. Edited January 24 by Mpfiend 1
TommyOneTwoFour Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I agree with the other... fantastic job on making this model what it should be... a dirty work car. I especially love the technique you used on again the seats. 1 1
Toftdale Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I'm late to the party, so I can really add anything that that's no already been said, but that certainly doesn't take away from the fact that the finished model is totally sublime - Andy 1
Vesa Jussila Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Impressive work. Weathering looks really realistic. 1
Davi Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Just wow, you're weathering skills keep amazing me. Very well done! 1
Dr Styrene Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Brilliant build that looks great. And, I'm am also a fan of GM's square body pickups. So much nicer than anything that came afterwards. 1
