APA Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Next one on the bench is this little cutey. Always had a soft spot for the Scimitar version even though I'm not a fan of all this modern nonsense 😎. This, I hope, will be a simple build. Not intending to add much in the way of detail (Famous last words!) I'm thinking UN driven through a swamp. It's been a while since I slathered anything in mud so what better than to do it on a white vehicle 😁. What could possibly go wrong 🤪 This is going to be all about the weathering and making a white tank look realistic! Pretty simple kit. This is as complicated as it gets and only 4 small sprues Some nice looking decals My only concern. Not a fan but willing to wrok with rubber tracks however they need to sag and if theres one thing that is guaranteed with rubber tracks. They do not sag. Do people still tie them down to the wheels with black cotton stolen from their mums sowing kit? BUT I'm really loath to spend half the price of this kit again getting a replacement link set from the same company as that made the kit in the first place!!! 🤬 Anyway. Things may kick of soon so watch this space 😵💫🫣 Cheers all Andrew 14
Hamden Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I'll take a seat for this one if you don't mind? Looking forward to seeing this in a white(?) scheme Roger
Keeff Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Having built this kit myself (with AFV Club tracks) I'll get my chair and a bag of snacks ..... and join @Hamden on the front row Keith ☺️
robgizlu Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Classic Vehicle - sounds a great idea Andrew - Group build eh? I'm in Rob
Stef N. Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Nice one Andrew. Will happily follow along with the others and watch the magic unfold. 👍👍
Bullbasket Posted January 23 Posted January 23 It's like a number 27 bus....you wait ages for one to come along, and then two turn up. It'll be interesting to see what you do with this one. John. 5

Hamden Posted January 24 Posted January 24 AFV workable tracks as used on my Salamander CVRT build although based on the Scorpion used the later Scimitar tracks No real problems with building the tracks Roger 7

I assume that's a home made jig? Andrew 1

APA Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 And we're off! The first two parts stuck on found me breaking out the filler! Not a good fit at all and the seam is directly over the sprocket and rear idler mounts 🤔 The sprue are a mixed bag of old and new which I suppose is because of all the varients. Suspension done. Again not the best of fits but I think they all touch the ground 😁 So far so good. Looking like a quick build. All dry fitted for now. Cheers all Andrew 13
ivan-o Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Lovely little kit to do👍 I have done two of these and both times I’ve pinned the track if you look closely you can see where they are. HTH Ivan 4

FrancisGL Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Hi Andrew, the added tracks will definitely be better, but I think you could have done a good job with the kit tracks anyway... Cheers Francis 👍

APA Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Nothing too exiting to report. Mostly cutting off all the detail on the kit, straps, clips and padlocks in prepreation for the PE. I'm not going to use all of it as sometimes the kit parts are more 3D. Studying the real thing the skirts around the body are very thin sheet metal so I thinned the kit as much as I dare. I do belive there is a PE replacement for this. Before skirt (with one sides worth of scrapings!) After which I think does imprive things a little Everything cleaned up and ready for the PE, well most of it. There are a lot of parts which still need trimming back but I'll do those as I go. I also scratched a shovel as I cocked up the kit one when I tried to cut it back! Plus the replacement tracks which will involve a nice cup of tea and a good podcast 😉 Things should get more interesting once the PE starts to go on. I'm at the stage where a lot of forethought is required before barging in and sticking stuff on etc. Cheers all Andrew 15 1
FrancisGL Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Hi Andrew, It will certainly require good planning, lots of PEs and those tracks...😱 Cheers Francis 👍

On at least two occasions in my current build I've had to remove parts that I'd already glued in place, only to find that it was a mistake. Good luck with the etched brass Andrew. John.

APA Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Loads of progress Wheels and barrel are dry fitted for now. I did do a few mods like opening up that gun crutch thingy at th end but mostly out of the box with the added PE. Once your into it that PE isn't too bad. Even the strap for the jerry can didn't vex me too much. I haven;t used all the PE as sometimes the 2D effect just doesn't cut it so I went with the kit stuff I am rather disapointed with some of the moulds. Those headlights for example. They are from one sprue which seems very old compared the rest. There does seem to be quite a bit of PE left but I think I'm almost dine. Deliberately left the tiny handles to last. I have a cunning plan to try and bend them all in one go!! Cheers all Andrew 9 3
Hamden Posted February 10 Posted February 10 More great progress Andrew it's really looking like a Scimitar now Roger 1
