drake122 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Made using Modelsvit's excellent Mirage 2000C (72073) boxing with small modifications to represent the 2000P version used in Peru. I made some additional details in the wheel bays, as well as added brake lines for landing gear legs. I also added canopy seal from stretched sprue and some spare photoetch to create canopy locking mechanism. Aftermarket items by Master (pitot tube), Reskit (ejection seat, exhaust nozzle) and MH models (Matra Magic training missiles), decals by Syhart + Decograf (OOB). This special tail art was presented in 2010 to mark the 25th anniversary of the type in service in Peru with the 412 air squadron - named "Falcons" or "Halcónes". More recently, all Peruvian Mirage 2000s were repainted in a rather boring uniform grey "air superiority" scheme with low-viz markings. I welcome comments and suggestions on how to try and improve the model and my photography. Thank you for watching. 55 1 6 6
Vultures1 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Beautiful Mirage and really lovely tail art - well done! May I ask what modifications are required for a 2000P? I was wondering about doing something similar with the Modelsvit kit 1
Dave Klaatu Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Beautiful! Love the paint! I have several of Modelsvit 1/72 Mirages, have yet to build one- I need to get to it. 1
djos Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Small masterpiece. Both your skills, photography and modelling, are on very high level! Best regards, Djordje 1
Wayne B Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Very nice work on the Mirage, and the photography too. In general, I like to use a black background for light to medium coloured subjects, as the contrast makes the colours “pop” a bit more. Also, I find some low aspect photos can give the subject a more “dramatic “ look. How was the kit to build? Was the fit good? 1
David Koktavý Posted January 21 Posted January 21 It is awesome Mirage 👍 I like the panel lines and overall ballance of colours. Did you also build the Modelsvit Mirage III ? I am curious about the comparison of building and fitting between them. 1
drake122 Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Thank you all for the nice comments! 21 hours ago, Vultures1 said: May I ask what modifications are required for a 2000P? I was wondering about doing something similar with the Modelsvit kit Actually, it's not too much work. Practically everything you need is already included in the M2000C boxing. You only need to extend/enlarge the rear facing RWR fairing on the fin top, delete a small RWR bulge on the tail boom and create some small Peru-specific antenna configurations (spine, underside aft of the front wheel bay) The diagram below (included in printed form as part of the Syhart decal sheet and also available for free on their website) makes it easy to figure out which optional parts to use. I can also post a few pictures to demonstrate the changes I made, if you want... 1 3
Vultures1 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Thanks @drake122, that's really helpful! Photos of your modifications would be really interesting Chris 1
exdraken Posted January 21 Posted January 21 The Modelsvit kit seems to be a real gem!! Fantastique Mirage! 1

I also find dark background more suitable in this case. I will have to experiment a bit more with positioning the model and use better angles to take pictures next time. Fit was good overall, but first you really have to get used to Modelsvit kits and the short run technology they use. Parts usually need meticulous cleanup to prevent possible problems at a later stage. It is like - the detail is all there, but you have to "work" to release it and also to think 2-3 steps ahead in the build all the time. 🤣 13 hours ago, David Koktavý said: It is awesome Mirage 👍 I like the panel lines and overall ballance of colours. Yes, I built a few Mirage IIIs from Modelsvit - the EA/EBR kit is possibly my all time favorite from them. I also built the "Shahak" and IIIO. I avoid the initial IIIE boxing like a plague - it is covered in rivets everywhere and has some wing sweep accuracy issues, which were thankfully corrected for all later releases. The built experience for this Mirage 2000P was largely the same as Mirage IIIs, no major issues to report from my experience. 3 hours ago, Vultures1 said: Thanks @drake122, that's really helpful! It is mostly minor changes. 3
Sky Keg Posted January 22 Posted January 22 The Mirage 2000 is such an elegant aircraft. You`s here is an inspiration for me. I like how it turned out. Mike 1
Harry Lewis Posted January 22 Posted January 22 That is one sweet looking build. I keep seeing great looking Mirage builds using the Modelsvit kits, so I went and bought one. I agree with Sky Kegs post, your build is an inspiration. Well done. Harry Lutz, FL 1

I hope I didn't forget anything important. IFR probe was fitted only on some airframes. SPIRALE countermeasure system was used, but no ECLAIR dispenser pod. 4
dimaADA Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Really great job! I'm pleased with your approach to detail. 1
David Koktavý Posted January 24 Posted January 24 As I have build M III EA, it is nice to read that M 2000 is the same levell. The modern planes are always tricky to make it accurate in details point of view, because of variety of versions and air forces. So thank you for the description above. 1

I would say all Modelsvit kits released since 2018 (or so) are more or less on the same level. My only criticism is for their clear parts - from further away they look ok, but close up and against a light you can see inconsistencies in them. Another small thing that I find weird from Modelsvit is that their initial batch of Mirage 2000C boxings had more 'spare' parts - I got an additional sprue with front landing gear wheels and another sprue with a different tail fin. The newer boxing of the same kit I bought doesn't have these, but has new 2000 liter fuel tanks. There is a great variery of versions for Mirage III indeed. Some small details always need to be built from scratch for exotic versions. On 1/22/2025 at 11:40 PM, dimaADA said: Really great job! I'm pleased with your approach to detail. Thanks, but it is far away from what I've seen on your Eurofighter and Mig-23. On 1/22/2025 at 1:30 PM, Harry Lewis said: That is one sweet looking build.
