My entry is Tamiya’s 1/48 F-16C/N kit.

Originally planned to build the box top scheme, until I looked at the instructions and saw the two tone blue aircraft operated by Top Gun, the decision was made for me.

I will be building this as a F-16N operated by US Navy Fighter Weapon School, AS Miramar, October 1993

With one build already underway in the Give Peace a Chance GB, I thought I would start this on this on. What could go wrong.

First up, the cockpit, using some Kelik 3D printed decals to dress up the cockpit and seat.

Really pleased with the result, far better than I could manage with a paint brush.

To finish of the bench session I made a start on the main undercarriage bay.

It's quickly looking like an F-16, nice progress.

After a couple of weeks away from the bench, finally got some time today and made some progress.

Comes with the option of dropped flaps, went with this as I think it adds bit of extra interest.

Progress has been slow, end of financial year is always a little mad at work. Been doing a bit of research in to this scheme. It appears to be a one of kind paint job done at TOPGUN and referred to as the "powder puff". It suggests the colours were FS35622 Duck Egg Blue and FS35450.

Paint arrived last weekend

Will be using the following.

  • FS35622 Vallejo Model Air 71.328
  • FS35450 Vallejo Model Air 71.332

First colour on. Looks better in real life, bit washed out in the photo.

Taking its first baby steps on its undercarriage.

That’s it for this week, will look to mask and spray the second colour next weekend.

Nice progress again JB :) I didn't realise it was a one-off either but there's been plenty of those in the history of aggressor and adversary aircraft.

Two to three hours spent masking this morning, before 10 mins spraying.

Masking removed.

Happy with the result, especially as I managed to drop it whilst masking, the reason for a missing wing tip missile rail. Thankfully that was the only damage.

The paintwork looks good JB and hopefully the wingtip rail is an easy fix.

Had a push over the Easter weekend to finish this one.

F-16N

Decaling underway, very low-vis bar the Top Gun badge on the tail. Was then given a very light panel wash.

And here she is finished.

Really happy with how this turned out. The Tamiya kit was a joy to build.
