Dermo245 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Hi all and I'm jumping in with Revell's 1/72 F-16A and some aftermarket decals. Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_1 From what I've read, this scheme never saw public display (despite being applied to the plane) and was vetoed at the 11th hour. Question is, do I go for Summer or Winter Diana?! Good luck with your builds. Cheers, Dermot Edited May 12 by Dermo245 Completed! 10 1

Dermo245 Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 So that was a fast start! Sorry - never took in-progress photos of the cockpit, intake and u/c bay. Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_2 by Dermot Moriarty, on Flickr Cheers, Dermot 9 1
Lightningboy2000 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Nice to see another 1/72 jet being done! I vote for the winter version. 1
Dermo245 Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 So this one is moving along - paint is done, all colours by Mr Hobby Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_3 I tried to fade the upper surfaces..not sure it's that visible? Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_4 And with Summer on the way, I've decided to go with the Summer tail art. I've painted the tail blue as a precaution but the decals seem to match the profile very closely. Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_5 Thanks for looking. Dermot 5
Dermo245 Posted April 7 Author Posted April 7 So on to decals. I started with the tail art and have to admit they were a bit of a pain - very brittle and didn't want to conform at all to the tail. While DACO supply decals to go under the main decal, the placement is really unclear on this (a visual would have been handy instead of 'place under the tail base under the rudder) 🙁 Oh well, another lesson learned and a lot of repairs/touch up will be needed. Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_5 While DACO supply decals for the airframe, I decided to go wit the kit decals from the Revell kit. IMG_11Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_6 Thanks for looking and happy modelling. Col. Posted April 8 Posted April 8 No wonder you chose to use the kit decals after having trouble with the Daco ones. These aftermarket sheets are not cheap so it's a disappointment when they don't conform well. Did you use any decal solutions with them? 1

Thanks Col and I used Revell's Decal Soft as well as Micro Sol and Micro Set. The Daco instructions do mention using one of their own brand decal solutions with these - I wonder would that have helped? There's also a good chance I've misread their instructions on how to apply them and maybe less haste, more speed and all that. I'm a regular modeller with average abilities so I know my skill level. And they are lovely decals which have to be applied on a difficult surface area with lots of complex shapes & curves. - every day is a school day! Cheers, Der 1
Col. Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Thanks for those details Der. I've a couple of Daco sheets for future projects and was contemplating getting some of their decal solution. 1
Dermo245 Posted May 12 Author Posted May 12 Thanks to the GB extension from @Enzo the Magnificent I managed to get this one finished. Gear added Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_7 And then final bits. Revell_F-16A_MLU_Diana_done (2) Will post some more pics in the Gallery, thanks to @Col.for leading and all your comments. Take care and happy modelling. Dermot 5 1
