Hi all and I'm jumping in with Revell's 1/72  F-16A and some aftermarket decals.

From what I've read, this scheme never saw public display (despite being applied to the plane) and was vetoed at the 11th hour.

Question is, do I go for Summer or Winter Diana?!

Good luck with your builds.
Cheers,

Dermot

Summer is coming but I'd recommend you get another kit to take full value from that decal sheet ;)

So this one is moving along - paint is done, all colours by Mr Hobby

I tried to fade the upper surfaces..not sure it's that visible?

And with Summer on the way, I've decided to go with the Summer tail art. I've painted the tail blue as a precaution but the decals seem to match the profile very closely.

Thanks for looking.

The fading looks good Dermot. Nicely subtle but effective.

So on to decals.

I started with the tail art and have to admit they were a bit of a pain - very brittle and didn't want to conform at all to the tail. While DACO supply decals to go under the main decal, the placement is really unclear on this (a visual would have been handy instead of 'place under the tail base under the rudder) 🙁 Oh well, another lesson learned and a lot of repairs/touch up will be needed.

While DACO supply decals for the airframe, I decided to go wit the kit decals from the Revell kit.

Thanks for looking and happy modelling.

No wonder you chose to use the kit decals after having trouble with the Daco ones. These aftermarket sheets are not cheap so it's a disappointment when they don't conform well. Did you use any decal solutions with them?

Thanks Col and I used Revell's Decal Soft as well as Micro Sol and Micro Set. The Daco instructions do mention using one of their own brand decal solutions with these  - I wonder would that have helped?  There's also a good chance I've misread their instructions on how to apply them and maybe less haste, more speed and all that.

I'm a regular modeller with average abilities so I know my skill level. And they are lovely decals which have to be applied on a difficult surface area with lots of complex shapes & curves. - every day is a school day!

Cheers,

Der

Thanks for those details Der. I've a couple of Daco sheets for future projects and was contemplating getting some of their decal solution.
