opus999 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 MiG-9 "Fargo" | AModel | 1/72 China Finished this on 7/10/2024. I'd hit a slump in modelling and my wife asked if she could pick one out for me to make, selecting the excellent Arma P-39Q. I was in the middle of that build, when I was able to get a hold of this kit. I've always been interested in this type and like it's early jet-era look. I originally found the paint scheme as a painting on the back of Squadron's "Early MiG Fighters In Action" and subsequently found pictures of the real aircraft at an outdoor museum in China. The pictures I found were taken a couple decades apart and the paint colors look very different between the two. I don't even know if this is an accurate paint scheme, or if the museum had some artistic liberties. Also, every photo is taken from the same angle (the port side) so I had to guess about the pattern on the top and starboard side. I just matched the paint as best I could to the oldest photos and the painting on the back of the book. The kit is a bit rough, but I think I've spent more time sanding and filling HobbyBoss easy assembly kits to make them look nice than I did this one. The fit was pretty good and I only had to do some major work on the bottom seam. I stole a seat from a MiG-15 kit on the cast off pile, but everything else was out of box. I found replacement decals in my spares for everything but the fuselage national markings, so they look a little different. In all, It was a bit of fun and I really like how it looks. I don't remember the colors I used and I have no WIP. Sorry! Hope you like it! Comments, Questions and constructive criticism always welcomed! 24 2
Vultures1 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Nicely done! A Model kits aren't easy to work with and you've done a great job getting yours to look so good. Nice camo scheme too. Well done 👍 1
John R Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Nice work and interesting, too as I never knew that China operated the MiG-9 John 1
Longhorn Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Nice work, personally I think they should have put some bigger guns on the front of this 😉 1
JamesP Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Great build of an interesting subject. I’ve had this kit in the stash since its release to go with my small collection of underslung Russian jets. I’m glad to hear it builds up well. I’ve done a couple of Amodel kits if this vintage and always felt there is a good kit in there. 1

I don't know if it's true, but I'd read that Stalin had gifted China a squadron or two of MiG-15s because he was embarrassed by the MiG-9's performance. Even if it's not true, it's a funny story. 9 hours ago, Longhorn said: Nice work, personally I think they should have put some bigger guns on the front of this 😉 Thank you! It's seems like they collaborated with the Howitzer factory next door... 🤣 9 hours ago, Ryan Hothersall said: Nicely built. The wing roots needed some filling and the seam on the bottom under the cockpit had quite a step in it, but they were easily sorted out and it turned out to be a fun build overall.
VG 33 Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Hello This is a very interesting subject and you mastered this short run kit. Patrick 1
