Popular Post Oldgitian Posted January 16 Popular Post Posted January 16 I was delighted when the 1/48 Airfix Gannet was announced and immediately acquired one. The AS1 and AS4 versions in the standard colour schemes didn't appeal so I decided to convert my build into a COD in the later RAF Blue Grey scheme. The conversion would entail no great changes with the removal of the rear cockpit equipment and a few minor alterations to the observers cockpit. The underbelly radome would have to be removed and I new I could fashion some underwing pylons and stores. I had previously bought some after market replacement decals. The attached photos show the final result with a couple of the build. I write this a few days after Airfix have announced the release of their COD variant..... GREAT! Just as a post script, I have to say what a superb kit Airfix have produced and I'm sure the new release COD variant will be equally well received. Thanks for looking. Ian 73 3 9 4
franky boy Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Great work Ian. Like you I much prefer this version of and camo scheme of the Gannet. James 1
georgeusa Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Beautiful looking Gannet that you have modified just in time for the kit to be produced. I think all of us who have modelled for a time feel your pain. Thanks for sharing. 1 1
Stephen Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Superb, this is the plan for the Gannet I purchased. I have pylons and pods courtesy of @wellsprop.
Lord Riot Posted January 16 Posted January 16 What a stunner. That’s pretty much convinced me to buy the new one! 1
CJP Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) Great job on your COD Gannet - I like the very neat finish too - any chance of more photos? Chris Edited January 17 by CJP
Nickthebrief Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Lovely result as always Ian. And on this one occasion I will keep quiet about the wings being folded… Nick.
Oldgitian Posted January 17 Author Posted January 17 Thank you for your kind comments. Here are some more photos. Just noticed the dust. I should have cleaned it off before taking the photos. Please excuse. Ian 10 2
MOK61 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Not my preferred scale, but superb none the less. I particularly like the the crew positions and the wing folds. Marvelous!
bigbadbadge Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Looks gorgeous, what a cracking model. Great work. Chris
Terry1954 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 You made a superb job of that Ian, and having seen it in the flesh, I can say it really did come out a treat. Maybe now you can get the Airfix COD version, and change it back to a regular Gannet! Well done. Terry PS I don't suppose you have time to scratch build a 1/48 Scimitar? Airfix might get the message if you did that. 1 1
