Popular Post russ c Posted January 16 Popular Post Posted January 16 Howdy all Thought you wouldn`t mind me bothering you with some photo`s of my latest addition to the `Nam collection My latest go at Academy`s 1/48 Phantom kit Finished to represent a `B` model in the markings of VF-51 `Screaming Eagles` or unofficially `Supersonic Can-openers` As usual, nothing fancy and apart from some home made seat belts, rear view mirrors and decals, is from the box contents Decals from Furball set 48011 `Bravo Mig Killers Pt 1` Which went on beautifully One thing I had to look up was the lack of stencils on the mainplanes, but I read that these aircraft were repainted after refurbishment and that many of the...... ......stencils were not re-instated afterwards, so I went with the Furball instructions and also kept the weathering to a minimum ( for me 🙂 ). Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ 71 2 3 2
iainpeden Posted January 16 Posted January 16 I thought the first photo was picture of the original! 🤩 1
Duncan B Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Brilliant, who doesn't like the VF-51 markings from that era? Duncan B 1
VG 33 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hi Russ This is very nice and this scheme is fantastic. Patrick 1

It looks sooo good without the usual maze of stencils. Although those may be technically correct for modern combat planes, in my opinion they destroy the sleek looks. Cheers, Michael 1
fox1_BE Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Excellent Phantom Russ, really love these markings👍 Patrick 1
Booty003 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hey Russ, that is a great looking Phantom. Nice touch leaving the wing drop tanks off 👍 The Academy F-4 is really good value for money and, with so many lovely schemes available for this iconic Cold War Warrior, it would be easy to get carried away! Nice subtle weathering too, looks spot on. Phil 1
Pantherhawk27263 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 That's a beauty, Russ. Fantastic work! I seem to recall reading about Mad dog's exploits in the book "...And Kill MiGs!" 1

I also think you answered my question on the wing leading edge. I was wondering if they were bare steel , or alloy like the USAF F4c delivered in gull gray. Looks like you aswered it. TY for sharing. 1
ringo Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Very nice build and love this scheme indeed! Thanks for sharing 💯 1

Thanks Charles, the silver on the leading edges was a protective coat called corrogard, not all F-4B`s had it, as these were reworked and repainted airframes and from looking at photo`s I decided it probably had it applied. Cheers Russ
Sky Keg Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I don`t what I am impressed with more Russ…………your outstanding skills or that you turn out these time consuming kits in a larger scale at an incredible rate. Either way, I applaud another brilliant work of art from you. Mike 1
stevehnz Posted January 20 Posted January 20 That rates a BIG WOW from me. I really like those Navy F-4Bs & this one ticks all the boxes. Steve. 1
