G-AIDN is a Mk VIII, but not too difficult to convert. It had some interesting schemes in its life.

I'll definitely be getting one or two probably through my local LMS in Galway. Support local!

Per my comment on the Mk.IX thread  those who have flown or who will fly in the now 12 two seaters in the U.K. will snap these up- by my maths they’re doing over 5000 flights a year so even if 20% buy a kit that’s a good return (you’d pay less than 1% of your flight cost for a model of the aircraft you’d flown in wouldn’t you!)

that market is potentially on top of the normal (?) modellers like what we are…

blooming good choice by Airfix methinks

That policy works in my house too.

Now on the subject of TR.9, I applaud Airfix for taking the risk although it’s still a Spitfire, so the risk is somewhat reduced. Begs the question, is there a market for a pure K5054 prototype kit out there too?

Cheers.. Dave

Oops, sorry that was rather careless of me... The tailwheel is a dead giveaway isn't it... 😉  Try this one instead...

I’ll second that slight thread drift… how popular would a duel boxed good quality Prototype Hurricane and Spitfire be in both the mainline scales?

Airfix must know I’m coming to the UK later this year and have planned a flight in one of the two seat Spits!

do you Think falcon will do a Grace melton style  Vacform canopy

Airfix have been made aware of the difference 😉🫡 it’s unclear whether the new tooling has provision for both but given the response I suspect not. Easy aftermarket set that with some decals - perhaps Barracudacast will oblige if Airfix don’t..

I would suspect that if this kit is partially targeted at those lucky people who have flown in the real thing, they would then want their completed kit painted up in the same scheme they flew in.

Throw some appropriate decals in and a slightly portly, balding figure with bulging pockets to fill up that rear seat and you’ve got a sure fire winner on your hands…. is James May available for Lidar scanning?

Cheers..Dave

This is a great choice by Airfix. Scope too for a bit of aftermarket/conversion to Tr8/MT818/G-AIDC, and to the Grace Spitfire adaptation.

Id buy one just to do the Irish Air Corp aircraft. Just because Ive always liked the color scheme on them.

Me too. It will be interesting to see what colour call out they advise for the external green? It might be a case of Humbrol 78 on the inside and Humbrol 78 on the outside…. Might as well just dunk the completed model in a large vat of Humbrol 78 and be done with it!

I was going to use the same color for both Tamiya Interior green. It’s the closest to the green I’ve got here locally. If I could get color-coats or some better paints like the original Gunze Creos Mr.Color which disappeared in the U.S. around 20 years ago. We have sone of the Mr.Hobby stuff but no Humbrol here.

Likewise- very elegant in those colours. I could also be persuaded by an Indian Air Force example with the Chakra insignia.

In my opinion you should be fine Dennis. My go to Aircraft Grey Green is Gunze C364, which is a lacquer that sprays beautifully. I use Tamiya’s XF-71 enamel for hairy stick touch-ups and it’s almost indistinguishable to the Gunze paint to my eye.

Cheers.. Dave
