Well, looks like I don't have to convert the Italeri kit now... and considering that the Airfix kit will likely be much more accurate than the italeri one I may have to consider selling all my Italian kits...

Well that looks rather lovely.

Surprised it's in 1/72...not that I'm complaining, 1/48 rotorcraft take up too much space.

Yes - this is a very nice addition. I should buy and build it. Not before I finish my construction of Italeri H-34 :) But that maybe pushes my super slow Seahorse project to the final stage quicker!

Unfortunately, this is so far the only new tool in 1/72 that is of any interest to me...

I'd be interested to see how they fit the nose together as I'm tackling the 1/48 Italeri Wessex UH.5 and it's interesting to say the least......

Even more unfortunately, this seems to be the only real new tool in 1/72 for this year, all others being variants of existing kits (although I'm not saying no to an MTO based B-24D), reboxes or vintage classics reissues.

Yep. I watched the video and after the Wessex he turned to 1/48 and I literally did a double take.

I'm properly excited for a new Wessie and will buy a couple, but it's getting more obvious each year that Airfix have all but abandoned us 1/72 scale modellers.

I don't build much in the way of rotary wings, but will be getting at least one of these.

Already culling posts. Keep it on topic, not a whinge about lack of a certain scale in the release lineup

Unless I'm missing something, it is the only one... at all?

I'll wait to see which decals this will have before deciding if I'm having one. The box art looks like the same scheme as Newark Air Museum's one

Apologies!

The Airfix website says summer release - I'm tempted to pre order one now rather than waiting until it's out and picking one up when I see one. That interior on the 3D render looks absolutely gorgeous.

Really looking forward to getting this one

I'm very happy about this one, been wanting a 1:72 Wessex for ages.
I can only hope they'll do a navy release in the future, gotta grow my junglies...

  • Homebee changed the title to 1/72 - Westland Wessex HC.2 by Airfix - box art+3D renders - release in Summer 2025

Its one from the school at RAF Shawbury.  A south American one and 28 sqn Hong Kong.

I feel a sudden need for a couple of Wessexes/Wessii/Wessices/Wessex and another Wessex (delete as necessary), one all folded and one not.

Same, I got excited thinking this was 48th at first...

A welcome addition nonetheless!

A Walter that doesn't need surgery to correct would be very welcome indeed.  Thanks Airfix!

It's a HC2 because that's what I built my Matchbox kit as 🙄 and of course a yellow rescue boxset will be around the corner.  I may hold off for other variants

I wonder if we get any engine details here that could be seen through the meshed opening in the nose? Or that is just going to be a solid piece of mesh simulation and no details inside?

AFAIK Newark's is in the later two greens scheme, but I could be wring and I might be lying.

You're right, I was thinking of their Whirlwind!..... which isn't camouflaged at all but does have the distinctive red bits

Typical. It would be one I have already built. Completed this back in 2020 using the Italeri 1/72 UH-34J Sea Horse and the Heritage Aviation Wessex HC.2 conversion set.

This looks awesome and the detail is close to what you would see in a 1/48th scale kit. That is ironic since I predicted Airfix would do a new Wessex in 1/48th in the Airfix 2025 thread.
