This was built for a friend of a friend.

This was mostly finished before christmas and was built for a friend of a friend. all I had left to do was to try and replicate the moisture staining on the panel lines (google Greek Corsairs - there are some wildly weathered aircraft!!) as this was the finish the gent I was building it for wanted.

This model was also my first time using oils to weather (not wholely sold, as I felt I could reproduce similar results with panel washes). The moisture staining was replicated with oils (this is why i didnt finish it over christmas as I was a bit intimidated as the staining had to be done on a matt finish. there was no way to remove it if it went horribly wrong.

So it was with some trepidation I applied the oils yesterday and today. I found that a dry brushing consistency worked best (almost no paint at all on the brush). Am happy with the Result and Hope that the gent who asked me to build it likes it when he receives it later this week.

The cockpit was a resin replacement provided by the gent and the decals were an aftermarket set also provided by the gent)

I did find it interesting that the moisture staining looks lighter or heavier depending on what angle you are looking at the model,

Very nice! Always had a soft spot the 2 seat A-7 and weathered Greek jets so there's a lot to like for me.👍👍

Fantastic build.  Incredible weathering.  However, how HB hosed up the canopy and fuel tanks in this day and age is beyond my imagination.

What issues are you referring to with the canopy and fuel tanks (too late for me to do anything now as I have handed it over to the chap I built it for).  The only issue I found was that the windshield stood proud at the front.  I resolved it easily with a sanding stick, but noticed in the magazine articles I was given with the kit that the guys who built the example for the magazines still had the front of the windshield standing proud.

Please, take no offense.  Your build is absolutely stunning.  First rate weathering.  You did a fantastic job.

The issue is with the shape of HB’s canopy.  Look at any photo of a two seat A-7.  The cross section of the HB canopy is almost square.  Not rounded as on the real bird.

The fuel tanks are much too long and skinny.

Nothing can be done with the canopy short of creating a new master and vacuum forming a new canopy.  Far beyond my skill level.

The fuel tanks can be robbed from a Hasegawa 1/48 A-7 or A-4.

Again this is not your issue.  Trumpeter has the same issue with their 1/32 single seat A-7.  Clearly Trumpeter and HB shared the same “research.”

To HB’s credit they at least issued the TA-7/A-7K in 1/72/1/48.  No one else did.  It’s just a disappointment they failed to engage in more serious research to us Corsair II fans.

I bought a 1/72 version and will someday build it and replace the fuel tanks with some from a 1/72 A-4 or A-7.  The canopy will remain misshaped.

I am certain the individual you built the Corsair for loves it and will treasure how well you built it and weathered it.

No offense taken.  Thanks for the feedback on the Canopy and fuel tank errors by HB,  I was not aware of that.

99.97% of people won’t notice or care.  Your masterful construction, painting and weathering is what matters.

That's a superb looking Greek Corsair. I really like the weather, visible and subtle at the same time.

Those Greek A-7 are real challenge from the weathering point of view.

You mastered it.

Beautifully finished model with great care to details.
