Nearly there for what is becoming a highly anticipated date to look forward to for the modelling community.

So for just over 48 hours only (this thread will close automatically at 1600Z on the 14th) you can have at it.

For once in here, the gloves are off, and you have dispensation to provide wishes, scurrilous rumour and maybe even some facts amongst it all.

Even the deeply disturbing 1:24 scale Vulcan perverts requestors can have a say, then its back in the box for them at 1600Z (although I'm not going to mention padlocking it safely shut using plenty of webbing strapping because that would probably start them off quivering in an even more disturbing manner ).

Hopefully all of us will find something in the 2025 announcements to look forward to.  For me it would be 1/48 Jaguar, a 1/48 Sea King HAR.3 and a new tool HMS Fearless.  You never know. ;)

At 1600Z the thread will be closed. No doubt there will be a rush to be first to post a new thread of whatever has really floated your boat/AFV or seaplane.  However, check first to see if someone has beaten you to it, check to see if it doesn't fit in an existing Airfix release thread (different boxing etc.), and don't post them elsewhere in the forum areas etc. We will just delete the unneeded ones

Ok I’ll start us off. How about a nice 1/48 scale Venom to go with their other early Cold War jets?

My most confident prediction for this year, or failing that next year, is a 1/72 Bf109F-4, following on from the excellent stater kit. I also predict that the Bf109G-6 will be removed from sale and will (hopefully) not be reappearing.

Airfix currently have three 1/72 Bf109s on sale. The Bf109F-4 starter kit, a Bf109E-3/4 (also frequently seen in a stater kit box, but not purpose designed for this) and a Bf109G-6.

The 109G-6 tooling has aged poorly and is long overdue for retirement. As a product of the early Hornby era (2009). It's poorly detailed and features trenches for panel lines. But worst of all, the prominent bulges on the cowling are awkwardly merged instead of being separated, so you cannot build a reasonable Bf109 from this kit. With the availability of Tamiya, AZ and Eduard toolings the kit is obsolete for more experienced modellers. Importantly for Airfix, you don't need to be a rivet counter to see that the kit is miles behind more recent releases, so it can be disappointing to buy the latest re-release.

Airfix will no doubt want one of the F-K variants in their 1/72 range, outside of a starter box, as evidenced by the fact that they have reissued the G-6 despite its issues for years. Having already done the research for an F-4, so this would be the logical choice. There is precedent for this with the Spitfire Vc where starter and full kit versions were released.

1/72 Avro Lincoln please!😜

Then I'll be free of my Contrail Lincoln and the Airfix Lanc (the one from 1980) an the resin conversion I bought in the '90s. 😎

I've been hearing their siren song for😸 the last six months...😇

Come to think of it - if I get cracking Airfix is bound to release a Lincoln right after I've done the most difficult part

Cheers, Moggy

The 2009 G-6 hasn't aged poorly: it was poor on release.  There were better kits around long before Tamiya or Eduard.  (Some of the AZ Gs are not to be considered in the same class at all.)  I never attempted it, but surely the bulges can be rectified with a little filing so can't be the worst thing about it?

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a 1/48 Phantom FG.1.
Why? Having been looking for a while, just before a Christmas I found and purchased a Hasegawa FG.1 .

My other predictions that are realistic, beyond the Bf109F-4, are:

1/72 Ju88. I'm not sure precisely which variant Airfix would tool, but it's one I think is a near certainty within a few years. Airfix would have easy access to the night fighter at Cosford, so perhaps this variant will come first? Airfix has had a Ju88 in the past, though the tooling is now obsolete.

1/72 Do217. Another one from the past (which hasn't appeared in the vintage range). Other than Airfix's early 60s tooling, only the Italeri kit is available in this scale and I believe that is from the 1970s. A new kit is desperately needed in 1/72, though if you're a 1/48 modeller you're spoiled for choice on Dorniers! I would imagine a Do217E would be most likely, with night fighters planned. Maybe we'd see the late war stepless cockpit versions later. The question is though does Airfix see this as too similar to their Do17Z, and will they do it despite there being no preserved examples? This one would be the very top item of my wishlist for this year

1/72 Sea Vixen. This would fit in with Airfix's range of British Cold War jets and would, I think, be quite popular. I imagine Airfix would do an FAW.2 and neglect to do an FAW.1 (to which I would probably respond by cutting one up to make an FAW.1- I prefer the cleaner lines of the early version!). Maybe Airfix will surprise me and account for both major variants?

1/72 Javelin. Similar to the Sea Vixen, it would be a welcome addition to the range. A modern kit is desperately needed and who doesn't like flying dorritos? Maybe the wrong kind of flying dorrito for me, but I think I'd build one regardless.

More wishlist-y items:

All 1/72 because I don't build much in the larger scales:

He162

Manchester

Lincoln

Halifax (likely in a future year but not the following year from the b24)

He219

Do335

Ar234

He177 (yes I know revell do one, but having one in 2025 quality would be very nice!)

Canberra (the early Hornby kit hasn't aged brilliantly, but it's not terrible, just a poor choice of variant)

Fw190D or Ta152

A Whirlwind (both kinds) would make sense in 1/72, as would a Saladin/Saracen in the armour line in 1/35.

No takers for a Scimitar?

A Whirlwind fighter would be a pleasant surprise!

There are lots of good suggestions above , many (most?) of which I would expend funds on.

I understand that for a kit to be produced, thousands need to predictably be sold.

Two that I long for and personally think would be practical for Airfix to produce, because they would sell more than just a few -

1/72 Spitfire MkXII (appeals to the sub-type knowledgeable, but also to the "It's a Spitfire" general buyers)

1/72 Scimitar

Then I'd like to see some 1/72 helicopters, though they are less likely to be seen as mass marketable - HH-3, S-92, S-61N and more.

The 2025 Range Launch

The 2025 Range Launch countdown has started...

Is anyone out there suffering with those winter blues, because if so, we’ve got something coming that will definitely brighten your mood – Range launch 2025!

The start of any new year also brings with it the joy of seeing the latest selection of Airfix models, and those all-important new tooling additions. The place to be for any self-respecting modeller therefore has to be the Airfix website at 4pm next Tuesday afternoon (14th January), when our 2025 range will be available for inspection in all its scale glory.

Read the full Workbench here: https://uk.airfix.com/community/blog-and-news/workbench/2025-range-launch-countdown-has-started

Welcome to this latest edition of our Workbench blog and all the news, updates, and modelling exclusives from the fascinating world of Airfix.

Anyone out there excited to find out about a new collection of Airfix model kits? In time honoured fashion, the start of any new year also goes hand in glove (or should that be poly cement on kit parts) with the announcement of the latest Airfix model range and catalogue publication, and we are delighted to announce that this will be the final edition of Workbench without our new collection being available for all to inspect. From 4pm next Tuesday afternoon (14th January), the next Airfix model kit range will be available to view in all its glory, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve got planned over the coming twelve months.

That being the case, with this being the final edition of Workbench prior to range launch, we will be taking the opportunity to look back at some of the headline new tooling announcements from previous recent range launches, whilst also posing the important question, ‘What new tooling subject would you like to see joining the range in 2025’? We will also be proudly showcasing a subtle, albeit important new appearance for our beloved logo, whilst also including a rather cryptic clue, which if evaluated successfully, will identify one of the exciting new tooling projects which will be announced next Tuesday. Thinking caps on, but if you get it, you should really sign up for ‘Mastermind’, because it’s a tough one!

We will end by looking at an existing kit in the current range which has proved popular since release, probably because it’s our scale model tribute to North American’s ‘Magnificent Medium’. As we are now in possession of a selection of built model images which weren’t available at the time of posting the original review blog, we’re going to be re-visiting this kit, but by only focusing on the details behind the two scheme options which feature within this kit offering.

One of the highlights of our entire year, we’re excited to be bringing you our latest range launch in just a couple of days’ time.

The previous guessing thread was closed but I think speculations about this hint could continue here? Bader and anything associated with him might be a good possibility. 1/24 Hurricane?
