theplasticsurgeon Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Joining as promised, with this Messerschmitt Bf 109. 15 2
Wez Posted January 7 Posted January 7 This is a lovely little kit, made it myself a couple of times and have one in the stash. Welcome and good luck. 1
2996 Victor Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Great to see a Condor Legion build making an appearance! Will there be a Republican Polikarpov as well 1 1
hakkikt Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I would like sooo much to build my I-153 in Spanish colours to complement your 109 (a nice kit, I built it long ago), but alas - various versions of the I-15 and the I-16 flew in Spain, but not the I-153. 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted January 18 Author Posted January 18 Fuselage parts. Wing parts. Instructions and decals. Instructions don't really say which prop to fit, but I've found something on Wiki (so it must be true) saying initially the fixed pitch one. 11

2996 Victor Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Fixed pitch props initially, then replaced by in service by variable-pitch. Which aircraft and when is in German Eagles in Spanish Skies - @Troy Smith may be able to help. Cheers, Mark 2
theplasticsurgeon Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Interior decoration. Green sides, black seat. Photos of Condor Legion pilots show a light grey flight suit. Cockpit and radiator installed into the fuselage side. I'm using the fixed pitch prop. Fuselage, wings and prop assembled. Assembled as an airframe. 11
theplasticsurgeon Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Canopy fitted. Asking for help now - what colour Humbrol grey should I use? 11
2996 Victor Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Fast progress! I do like these early '109s and the Condor Legion schemes are very attractive. Great stuff! Cheers, Mark 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Underside airbrushed Humbrol 65 grey. 13
hakkikt Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Fast work, nice result!👍 About the grey: as I understand it, there is disagreement whether early Legion Condor 109s were painted RLM 62 or RLM 63 topside... it has even been claimed that the a/c were painted a dark green and the light colour on photographs is the result of cheap photo film emulsion. Ghost Grey (Humbrol 127) has no green in it, so you might meet some criticism🤷♂️ but the truth is: nobody really knows what the topside colour looked like - I for one think your choice looks very similar to what can be seen on photographs. 1

theplasticsurgeon Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Decals - Condor Legion, Spain. and canopy framed. 15 2
John Masters Posted January 25 Posted January 25 That looks great @PlasticSurgeon! I have the same kit, but according to Scalemates...maybe I read it wrong... it's a new box, but the lineage seems ok. I'd like to add mine as well. 1
2996 Victor Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Excellent work, Tim, this is an absolutely cracking build! And congratulations on being our first Gallery post, too! Cheers, Mark 1
silverfox63 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Wow, that was quick work, Tim. First I knew it was finished was when I saw the gallery posting. Cheers, Chris. 1
