Hi all.

This weekend i finished this display for my Airfix 1/72 BN Defender from the Omani air force.

The inspiration is a photo from the internet showing the Defender on a remote airstrip in 1978.

I scratch build the two trolleys and used a bunch of resin oil barrels to create the scene.

The kit is the old Airfix kit which is not bad at all, but takes a little work to put together.

I sanded the surface detail back a bit and rescribed the wing as well as adding some antennas.

I hope you like this little piece of aviation history 🙂

Oh that is really nice! And BN Defender is not an aircraft you often see in collections! A special bravo for the stoney land on the runway side. Exactly the kind of terrain you see in Oman in real life.

Never been to Oman myself, but I'd say it's picture-perfect!  How did you scribe the access panels with such consistency?  What kind of scribing tool do you use?

Thanks a lot!

I used an old Verlinden scribing template an a needle in a pinvise for the scribing.

The acces panels is present on the Airfix kit as raised details. I sanded them almost of and used the little there was left as a guide. After scribing i sanded the wing flush.

Thanks Dennis.

The gravel is just some road side dirt that i sprinkled on white glue. I did not even paint it as i thought the color is just right.

That is exactly what you see next to a road in Oman ;)

I like this very much, always keen on an Omani scheme, especially when it is as good as this. :) I do wish Airfix would re-issue this & their Skyvan under the Vintage Classics label, preferably with Omani decals. :)

Lovely job - especially in those colours.

Very nice build, and gluing it to a base avoids the fact this kit is a horrendous tail sitter.
