My first build (yes I may be tempted to do a few) is a 1974 release of Hellers Potez 631. As mine is a bagged kit and has no box, I've copied the picture from Scalemates below.

I'm planning on doing the Vichy colour scheme so hopefully my red stripes decals will come in handy.

Crossing fingers on this one for you Pat, I remember the one Vichy plane you attempted a few years ago. Sadly the stripes didn't want to work with you on that one.

Yes well remembered,  the masking tape leaked badly, it looked like a scene from Reservoir Dogs !

Lovely subject, Pat, one of the few French twins that look rather pretty! The Vichy stripes will look great :)

In the back of my head there's a nagging voice which says blue de nuit, a dark, blue grey but at the same time there's another voice saying chamois, a light to mid brown colour.

Truth told I don't know so I'm putting out a call to someone who might know or will at least, have a good chance of finding out.

Patrice, I'm calling on you @TEMPESTMK5

Good morning my friends

I asked the question on the Master 194 forum and as soon as I have an answer I'll post it.

Hi Pat,

I always come back to this box art when I browse a Heller catalogue. It is a truly charismatic painting from Paul Langelle, and the Vichy stripes just bring everything to life.

I am sure you will beat the stripes' trickiness.

Have fun.

Cheers mate.

I've never actually built any of the Musee series of kits so I'll be following with great interest.

Might even be tempted...

The paintings were generally better than the early kits, which were basic.  One problem I saw mentioned about the Potez was that the canopy was too stepped, but not having had it I can't confirm  (Except that I thought it also applied to the Bloch 174 and it doesn't.)  Possibly Falcon produced a replacement in their French canopy set.  The Bloch 210 and Potez 540 were not early ones: I didn't know about them until browsing in a model shop in Quimper in the early 90s - needless to say they both came home. with me.  Almost equally needless to say they are still here...   I think the other Potez, the 63.11, was somewhat later but earlier than the two mentioned above.

According to M. Carbonel, the Potez 63.11 and Bloch 210 were issued in 1967, so they were in the second wave of Musée kits. The Potez 540 was announced in 1968 but not released unitl 1972.

Thanks Graham

I think the biggest problem the actual Potez 631 had was getting mistaken for Messerschmitt 110's so lots were attacked by allied fighters and anti aircraft batteries  !

I'm looking forward to starting this one

Hence the white stripe down the fuselage, a fuller length than the one shown in the box art, which was later adopted by Vichy, before the full red and yellow.

Just to show there's no cheating going on, here's the kit still sealed in the bag, along with the enormous instruction sheet

One option is to spray clear to seal the tape edges, then apply colour

So last night I opened the bag, and found a broken prop and a couple of parts off the sprue.  So nothing lost of mislaid yet :fingerscrossed:
