This was my last build of 2024 – it just snuck in as I finished it off on New Year’s Eve before the partying began. A nice pair of 1/48 armour kits – Tamiya’s Nashorn and Hobby boss’ KV1. The Tamiya went together as expected (i.e. without fuss) and the KV1 was similarly straightforward. If anything, I’d say the KV1 was my favourite of the two. Separate hatches, a bit of PE and a very nice tow cable are included. For some reason the PE didn’t cover the engine vent meshes, which was a bit of a lost opportunity, so I cut out the plastic parts and added some mesh of my own. This was my first go at 1/48 armour and also my first snow scene and winter whitewash. Unusually for me, I eschewed the DIY route and used AK’s snow sprinkles and micro-balloons which I was pretty pleased with. All in all, a very enjoyable and satisfying build. Both vehicles appear to be floating a little in these photos – since I took them, I applied a bit more mud and snow to bed-in the tracks a bit better, and some of the snow was pretty fresh when I got the camera/phone out, so they’ve dried out a little more convincingly now. 30 1 3 3

Richard E Posted January 6 Posted January 6 A very compact and well finished diorama. The only question I would ask is whether the Nashorn commander would be scanning the horizon from such a conspicuous position ?
Model Mate Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 Thanks for the great feedback folks! @Richard E - good point; he would stick out a bit. I’m picturing a wide open expanse ahead of him, and a desire to get as high as possible to scan the scene, but he could well end up as sniper fodder! 1
