Hi All,

I'm currently working on Airfix's 1/72 scale Bomber Re-supply set, and was curious to know if anyone had a 'definitive' idea on the best solo, or mix of Vallejo Model Air colours, for the Bedford MWD - both the body and the canvas cover?

For the SCC2 I read a suggestion of:

Vallejo Model Air Dark Earth : Light Camouflage Brown at 2 : 1

Is this likely to provide the desire result for the body of the vehicle, or is there a better mix/single colour that would better suit?

I am keen to use Vallejo Model Air, as I have been using their paint a while now, but have found conflicting opinions on the most accurate mix for SCC2.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

For SCC.2 on metal and wood Revell aqua is 5 x 86 + 6 x 84.  In Vallejo I found 3 x 70873 + 2 x 70871 is nearest.  The canvas was either dyed brown supposed to match the paint but never did so something much lighter than the mix. Or natural canvas colour which about 70914,

These are Model Color,  not Model Air

I don't think Vallejo Model Air and Model Color have any logical cross reference system unfortunately @SouthEastAviation99

VAL873 Model Color - US Field Drab

VAL871 Model Color - Leather Brown

A now gone blog had a list of Vallejo mixes, some attributed to you

SCC (Standard Camouflage Colours)

SCC 1A (Dark Brown) - 70822 German Camo Black Brown [150] (Mike Starmer, 2011)

SCC 2 Brown - 70826 German Camo Medium [145] (Mike Starmer, 2011)

SCC 15 (Olive Drab) 1pt 70888 Olive Grey [92] + 1pt 70924 Russian Uniform WWII [094] (Mike Starmer, 2009)

FWIW 70826 German Camo Medium  is the lighter brown on the Morris C.8 below.

This was before I had your books Mike, but I don't recall it being horribly wrong in comparison to the chips.

A thing to check when we get some sunlight and I remember...

Yes, I did those mixes after several emails asking if I could recommend Vallejo colour for British vehicles.  Since I use brushes those were the choice.

BTW NEVER,  EVER never cross check colours in sunlight and always on a flat surface. (not spoon backs)  A bright cloudy day is best if you cannot use a north light source.  This is the advice in the Methuen Handbook of Colour which includes a grey view card and in the preamble text of the F.S.959 swatch book.  Unfortunately it is not with the colour fan-deck.
