To tie in with Mary's dolls house project, I was casting around for a car of the same scale. She used to have a motorbike which would've been a lot more choice, but this came up at an 'affordable' price (that's what I said anyhow)

Quite a few parts, though not as many as I was expecting...

Monty the cocker spaniel gives an idea of size because a Humbrol paint pot would get lost in there!  Very Tamiya, seats are moulded in a different 'black' to the engine components. Sure Miniart could have comfortably got through a thousand parts for the engine alone, but this seems surprisingly sparse; not that I intend  to add anything.

Instruction booklet and decals. The decals are cracked, hence the very reasonable price.

Cool! Well done finding this at a "reasonable price" too! Everywhere I see these Tamiya kits they're always a bit OTT compared to what I remember - in the 80s if I saved up I could afford a whole starting grid of 1/20 F-1 cars - now despite being a grown up with a good job I baulk at the cost of one!

Looking forward to seeing this parked out the front of the house!

That does look like a very reasonable parts count for that scale. The big question is, what colour is it going to be?

A quick tally puts the parts count at around 110-120, though this being NYD I may have miscounted. But it's certainly not a whole hill of parts, well big parts do make quite a hill now I think about it🤣

Looking at that, it looks like Tamiya just scaled up the 1/24th scale mini kits, as the instructions look very familiar to a smaller one I built a couple of years ago, albeit the Monte Carlo rally version :)

Plenty of room for detailing though

Will follow along

I will resist - it's a bit of fun to gp with Mary's dolls house. But there is undoubtedly a lot of scope for added detail.

Hi @Mjwomack.

That's a big mini from the time when minis were still minis. Nice choice.

Blue? I'd have liked a vignette like this:

🤣

Have fun.

PS apologies for not participating with a Connie, it will be a car too: Meng's 1/24 BMW Z4; if it can help, I think you didn't see this finished one

Not much to show at the moment, apart from a catering pack of grey primer!

Mary has approved that blue finish which I tested on the bonnet; very pretty it is too (even if a custom finish) but I'm struggling to get a photo that brings out the metallic lustre.

As to the kit itself, is it possible to be disappointed with a Tamiya kit?! If I was building this as a 'serious' model then I think I would be, as @Redstaff suggested it feels like a scaled up version of a 1/24. There is some detailing to go with the scale, but equally there's a lot missing.

For the purposes of going with the Doll's House, it'll be fine.  I may incur the wrath of doll's house modellers but it seems to be they're not so interested in weathering and realism so much as a show-house finish. Maybe not prisitne but certainly stylised and it'll be fine for that (famous last words).

Exactly right, also means I don't have to get anxious about the garish chrome on the hubs etc.😉
